Re: Ribbon Snakes

Not the best pictures, (Really need a better camera than my phone) And as I said before, they are really fast. Cute little guys that seem to like to watch you. And they are almost all tail.

Thanks Shaun she's a keeper. I'll feed them tomorrow and try to get some video and try to figure out how to post it.

Wayne, I bought them some pinks today, but I think they are too big. Do you think they'd eat your Garter Goulash?

Thanks

Re: Ribbon Snakes

Worth a try, mine has ate it before.

Chop up the pinkies while they are still frozen, it's a lot less messy.

Re: Ribbon Snakes

I managed to get a feeding video today. Not the best, but it shows what good fishers they are. The minnows they are eating are gold fish minnows, but recently I found out that goldfish (carp) and catfish are not good for them due to thiaminase. So I will be getting guppies next time out. The problem with switching them to f/t fish, or pinkies seems to be the feeding response. they do like to go after the live food. So I'm in a conundrum here. If anyone has any ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Wayne, if you could help me post the video, that would be great!

In the meantime here are a couple pics....

I did try the swearing bit, (It's usually the first thing I try) But it didn't work. Maybe I need to learn more swear words.

Re: Ribbon Snakes

Thanks guys for the great comments! I didn't think the video quality was that great, I shot it with my phone, but yeah they are amazing fast as Wayne can probably tell you. I believe that ribbons are the closest relative to the garter snake, and are often confused with garter snakes.

Ribbon snakes are a sub-species of Garter snake.

They all belong to the Thamnophis group.

Garter snakes slam food just as quick.

I have a few that can pound multiple mice in a minute.

Re: Ribbon Snakes

Well, I took the kids fishing yesterday, and consequently had a few night crawlers left over. Soooooo I put a feeding dish in each of the tubs, in the middle of their big water dishes and gave each a worm. This morning, one of the worms was gone. I looked everywhere making sure it just didn't escape. The other had escaped and was hiding under a rock. So, at least one is eating crawlers.
