Re: Retained shed at tail.

I checked her again, right after posting that, and noticed she now had a "rough" patch on her side where she hadn't shed, but the color had gone back to normal. It felt very very dry, like a scab. (usually she feels kind of like soft leather) So it was off to the vet today.

Her retained shed is being caused or is causing an infection under one of her scales. Now I get to give her injections every other day (she's going to love that) for a week, and then soak her. If the shed doesn't come off, back to the vet she goes.

Re: Retained shed at tail.

not being cheeky mate but get someone to help you hold your jungle firmly while you give the injection.never go through a scale go under them.always give the injection site a quick clean with a cloth and some soapy water.also give the site a gentle rub after the injection.personally i hate giving mine injections it feels so invasive, sticking sharp objects into my snakes.has to be done though, good luck with the patient mate.
cheers shaun

Re: Retained shed at tail.

Yeah, the vet showed me how to do it, and my wife (reluctantly) agreed to help.

Re: Retained shed at tail.

My wife already caught the bug. She came in to wake me up from my nap... holding Houdini. The snake I can't hold without it escaping. It's escaped 6 times on me, and she just holds him like it's nothing. He never musks her, or tries to get away.
