Re: Carpet pythons
oh one more question (for now) how well do your carpets feed? i know some pythons (namely BP can be tricky eaters) while other (like womma pythons from what i hear) will gladly get fat if you let them.

Re: Carpet pythons
My big jungle eat like a champ until nov. Then go off of eating until march. Done this from about the age of 3 or 4. Think it because of mating season. My diamond x jungle ate two days after get it and never missed a meal. already eating small rat. My wife got it for me for V-day(FEB). He grown about 3 inches already. My bredli i got last sept. He didn't eat for almost the first 7 weeks. I had been try to feed it pinkies wouldn't touch them. Then one day i had a extra mouse fuzzie my borneo didn't eat, so i figure what the heck give it a try. He wolf it down. The next week he ate 3. Now he up to 3 large rat fuzzies every other friday.

Re: Carpet pythons
Going off eating in winter is common for a lot of snakes.

Re: Carpet pythons
ok (yet) another question. I was thinking of building my own enclosure (it would actually be an entertainment center made up of a grand total of 5 cages) is an 18"x18"x20" ok for a neonate or yearling diamond x jungle? if so the larger cage in the setup is going to be 46"x27"x20". would this be big enough for a full grown snake? i just started drawing up the plans and will hopefully start the build in a couple weeks at most (waiting for my sign on bonus). just wanted to make sure that this would be big enough before i started anything

Re: Carpet pythons
My 8 foot jungle is in a 4x2x1 boaphile cage. This size is almost perfect it just needs to be a little taller. As far as for a yearling i said 2'x2'x 20" would work. Diamond x jungles tend to grow faster than jungles. The size for the large cage would be perfect for a adult. IMO

Re: Carpet pythons
For a younger carpet a 2'x2' is fine, but an adult jungle will need a 4'x2' and a coastal would need more on the order of 6'x2'. I keep my adult mutt carpet (8 feet long) in a 6'x2'x1'tall melamine cage, and my young adults (3-4feet long) are in 3'x2' melamine enclosures that can be expanded as they grow. Carpets tend to move slowly and methodically and don't require quite as much room as a lot of other snakes of the same length due to their very slender bodies. That said I still like to give mine as much room as possible. All carpets tend to be semi-arboreal and a lot of them will use a perch or branch or something to climb on if you give it to them. My Irian Jaya male and my pure Jungle female both spend most of their time on their branches while my big mutt male and my Jungle/Jag sibling male really never use perches. Carpets are one of my favorite snakes overall, due to their size, colors, generally docile nature and good feeding responses.

Re: Carpet pythons
wow 6' i didn't realize they would need such a large enclosure. i have read multiple different sizes that people recommend and was kind of unsure. its nice to hear what someone actually keeps theirs in. i am planning on building a cage in a month or so. i just got an RTB that my girlfriend and i (but most importantly my girlfriend) fell in love with so i am going to need a really big cage soon.

Re: Carpet pythons
My big boy Voodoo would actually be just fine in a 5'x2' cage, since he hardly ever uses the full amount of room available to him, but I had the cage and no one else was large enough to need it. A full grown jungle would be fine in a 4'x2' since they usually stay in the 5-6 foot range.

Re: Carpet pythons
I would suggest a 6x2x2 as being a decent size for a jungle, although i think i personally would prefer more height as they love climbing.
