Get a UTH, and get a lamp. Plug both in for a couple hours. Tell your grandparents to put their hand on the heating pad, and then put their hand on the bulb. Ask them which one is the more likely fire hazzard. Show them the CSA stamp on the heating pad. If that doesn't work, go with lamps.

trust me ive been arguing with my grandpa for a long time over this and he just will not go for the heating pad. i know that the UTH is not a fire hazzard but he wont listen to me. for this cage im going to have to just go with the lights even though they are more annoying IMO.

ken: thats a really cool setup you have there for protecting the lights but do they sell wire things to put over a light that is in a ceramic light fixture in the middle of the cage?

reticsrule - Haven't seen any, but you could always make one. Of course, you'd need a soldering iron and possibly a grinder as well.

YoungBuck - Thanks. Wait until you see my new enclosures. Let's just say that the ones in these pics were my skill level about a year ago.

well i just finished building the cage(most of it at least). i still have to install the lights and touch up a few things but it is almost complete. everything is looking good to me so far. i guess ill have to make some kind of cover for the lights but i want to get my boa in his new cage because ther one he is in now is way to small.

Reticsrule ~ I just used simple chicken wire as a quick fix to keep my snakes away from the bulbs. It's cheap and easy~! I am in the works of making better guards but for the time being, it works and keeps their little snouts from being burnt.

Ken ~ Alright man...time to get those puppies on the assembly line then~! I will take 3 6'x2'x2' ASAP
