I certainly have. I was creeped out beyond belief the first time I heard it. That wore off quickly though

"If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now"

Bring Samwise Gamgee to mind anybody?

What about ".. and the forest will echo with laughter.." Perhaps a reference to Ents?

Some think that the song is actually a reference to Lord of the Rings. I remain skeptical yet open to the notion. It is fun to think that this may have been what Page and Plant were thinking about when they crafted one of the greatest rock songs of all time. I think the mystery is rather fun... and I would rather not know the truth. After all, the band apparently had to issue a statement denying the song was influenced by Tolkien in any way. Nonethless.... we can all come to our own conclusions regardless. I suppose art means something different to everyone... that is the beauty of it... the subjectivity. So we can all believe what we want.

The biggest problem with "National Geographic" type shows is they get crap ratings since they only appeal to a very small audience. While I definitely don't agree with all of the antics of Steve Irwin and the others they do get ratings which at the end of the day is really all the network cares about.

With any luck they'll pass on their enthusiasm for herps and perhaps educate the public a bit in the process... Those shows are for joe blow average channel surfer, not people who are already passionate about reptiles in general. Now that I think about it I can't really remember when I saw a 'facts only' style documentary on any subject on pretty much any channel. They all do re-enactments or dramatized footage now

What people will do for ratings ,I am suprised that he is not bitten more often they way he dances all around the snakes.I have had and still have Venomous snakes and have always been very careful with them and still managed to get bit from a Monacle Cobra ,people have to realize these snakes can bite you quicker then you can blink your eye.

i just recently saw one of his newer programs, he was searching for a reticulated python in the jungle, he found it, but the snake was not interested in him, so he grabs the snake and pretends like it gonna constrict him, meanwhile the snake was just lying there, he had to pull the snake on top of him to get the "effect". he is a loser, steve irwin got him beat any day of the week

I think it would be great if someone grabbed Austin by his leg and dragged him all over the desert while sticking a camera in his face!

I kept cheering the snake on hoping it would nail that jerk.

Is it just me... or does Austin Stevens look like Steve Irwin after a 4-month coke bender?

i have to admit, while entertaining, austin is totally disrespecting nature. that whole sequence with the cobra was totally unnecessary and disruptive. at least irwin doesn't blatantly taunt the poor bugger and then say, "holy f**K i've been bitten!" like it was never gonna happen. holy cow, you're right double j - i think that is irwin on a bit of a bender
derek i

For the sake of continuity of the threads I will copy and past my recent Austin Stevens remarks here aswell.

What I like about O'Shea and Barr is their shows are never about them, they're about the animals. And even though Irwin and Bredl are the focal points of their respective shows, they definately know what they're talking about...

But the greatest disapointment of the night went to Austin Stevens "the snake master". What crap was that!!!???!!! An aledgedly knowledgeable herpetologist on a reptile specific show spewing off about how a 20' retic can eat a full grown human (namely him). That show has an awsome camera man and great visual direction, and with his continual scrambling up and falling out of trees with snake in hand, etc. But he is without doubt the stupidest and most careless herpetologist out there...

From the time Stevens was in college he was an idiot herper keeping hots loose in his dorm as was shown in that same In search of the King Cobra show where he gets bit. Really as a herpetologist, he's a good photographer.

I enjoy all of these shows but i agree that the host's should pay a little more respect to the animals. I feel Rob Bredl is the best of them not as much because of how much he shows, but because the way he shows the animals. He dosnt grab them by the tale and swing them around, he just quickly pins them and grabs them firmly but cautiously behind the head. He dosnt go all hollywood like the other Hosts he just shows the animals as respectably as possible.
I belive this is the best (or closest to) you can get, because if you dont show hands on raction with the animals, you wont get ratings, and the show will be canceled, but if u go all hollywood you will get great ratings, but ur not showing respect to the animals that make your show what it is.
It is impossible to satisfy everyone, because everyone wants to see, and learn different things. The host cant talk about the real advanced parts of herptology without giving veiwers the base knowlege first (not all veiweres spend hours on reading about reptiles). You cant have a super advanced show in just one hour, there is just too much subject matter to cover to give everyone the base knolege to learn about some of the more intresting things like genetics, and heratage.
This is just my two cents, if you dont agree with me thats ok, its just my opinion

P.s_ just ignore all the spelling mistakes (please)

yes i really love how he uses his "jiggah" for venomous snakes. smashing it down on the back of their neck/head with what appears to be pretty good force. also how he catches pythons that he knows are big enough to wrap him up and when they do, dropping to the ground and rolling around on them with all his weight to get them off.
