Originally posted by Painted Desert And, when you feel you have mastered sexing leo's, just wait until you try African Fat Tail jeuvies.......
I've decided to cheat now when I'm sexing AFTs regardless of what age they are when I get them. If I don't find eggs after 2 years, I'll assume it's male.
I think their tails are cute Something i started a while ago when sexing leo's or fatties is to place them onto a glass plate, and view the underparts with them up above my head. Of course, you must be aware of the gecko's position on that plate at all times....the point being, one should not attempt to sex a gecko with the tail in a flexed position. Quite misleading. Really.
I actually use a 3mm piece of glass suspoended between 2 TV trays. I setup my 5MP Digital camera on a tiny tripod underneath and place the gecko on the glass under a cardboard tube with black lining (to get best pic). Works well for me, although sometimes it takes a few shots adjusting for light absorption, glare, ect.
The problem is trying to sex a Leo at about 8-9 months age. Should be developed enough to tell, but small enough to make very difficult sometimes LOL and when you have 6 together it could turn into a bad situation very fast if your wrong....
