I agree with Wrath. Closed minds are the problem, but reinforced by the behaviours learned from others. My grandmother was terrified of anything even remotely scarey, including snakes and spiders. My mother and my aunts are all scared of them too... so there's something to the theory of learned fears. However, that fear must be very strong, because despite how I try, nothing seems to overcome them. Although, in the case of my mother it kind of did, since originally she told me that she would never darken my door again if got a snake... then after about 4 months, when I mentioned it again, she seemed happy enough to just have me cover them. Since Casper's in my room, she won't even know he's here :P
