Well, to my knowledge all sand, terrestrial geckos can get impaction. Impaction occurs due to ingestion of sand. Therefore young non-experienced hunters are more susceptible to impaction. (Correct me?)
For the temperature, I don't know the requirement for leopard geckos. But I keep my knob tails at 85 +/-5 fahrenheit using a heat pad and during the day a light bulb. I suggest you buy a thermostat to regulate the temperature.
Both Knobs and Cresteds are great. You've got a difficult choice. But either choice is a good choice
