You have to go to Herp->Species in the menu and in the Species Screen, create your species first. Don't forget to enter the feeding interval, because that is the trigger for the scheduler.
Save your changes and go back to the herp screen. You can now select your species from the combobox.
Cheers

I'm having several problems. Maybe I'm being dumb. The first problem, which is probably related to the rest of them, is that at the end of the installation it says "this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down."
It still appears to have been successfuly downloaded.
When I go into the "manage your herps" section the "feed me!" box pops up, but it is blank. I have several herps entered in and feeding records filled out for all of them. Once I close the "feed me!" box I can never get back to it unless I close the program and start it again, and it is still blank. I would really love to use the reminder feature. Pressing F1 in any screen also does nothing. Thanks for your help. I'm sure I'll feel dumb soon enough.

Hey Bighead,
The error you're getting, is not normal. I would download and install the software again.
It is true, the feed me screen will only appear the first time you enter HCS and the herp screen. But you can always get it back by going to View->Feed Me. It is normal for the screen to be blank, because you have to do the following:
1) Go to Herp->Species and create the appropriate species.
2) For this species, fill in the feeding interval, because this will be used in the scheduler.
3) Save your changes and go back to the herp screen
4) Choose the right species for your herp from the species combobox in the herp screen.
5) There has to be at least one feeding record for your herp before the scheduler can kick in.
6) If you recall the feed me-screen now, you will see that your herp is in it (if it needs to be fed).
Why the help doesn't work, I do not know. I will test it on another computer. Perhaps it has something to do with the error message you're getting.
Cheers
LotusE

Great program LotusE
It installed for me with no problem,, easy to manouveur and input. My only observation is it would be nice to have a little more control over the listing of food items (eg. breaking down mice and rats into a broader spectrum of sizes, that can be put on a menu or check box layout). Otherwise you did a great job, THANKS !!

Looks good, I hit "archive" and all my feeding records disappeared but it's simple enough to plug them back in... I'll enjoy staying up late at night frigging about with all my records, getting them transferred from all the scraps of paper I'm currently using... Hate to sound cynical but you really should charge something for this, there's a program out there they charge 50 bucks to register and lots of people have that one and it's not even as good as this one... Thanks man.

I'm also having some difficulty. On the Manage your Herps screen. I enter data until I get down to the Date Purchased box, I type in a date and hit enter, but it just beeps at me and the cursor won't go anywhere. I'm entering the date MM/DD/YYYY. This was accepted in the Birthdate field, but not in the Date Purchased field. Whats up?

cause you need to say DD/MM/YY and not MM/DD/YY the reason it probebly worked in the birth day one is probebly cause a number lower then 12 in the midle box any higher then 12 and you are scrued.

Normally, the date settings for these fields follow the Regional settings of your computer.
So, it's not like I've made a 'mask' for this, because I knew (hoped) that my software was going to be internationally used.
So you just have to change the regional settings of your computer to enter the dates in the format you like.
Cheers

I couldn't find the forum page on your site?? I get an error when it is almost finished downloading..
Ins1165 has caused an error in INS1165.TMP.
Ins1165 will now close
I tried downloading it again, but got the same thing... any ideas??
It pops up when the installation is at 'Registering'...

The link to the forum is on the left in the menu, under 'Herp Care Software'.
Concerning your problem:
Do you have enough rights on your system to register files?
Do you have enough disk space?
What os do you have?
Try downloading and installing it again.
Cheers

Well I just got all my babies entered into the program and I love it. I will definitely be sending you something LotusE. A few questions though
The main installation files ended up in their own directory and the icon is on the desktop. However along with the icon, I am also getting these two files being put on the desktop
FOXUSER.FPT
FOXUSER.DBF
Is this normal? If not, is there a way to overcome this and simply get them back into their own directory? Can I safely move them to their own directory and still have the program function correctly.
Here's a few more suggestions
Problem: (more than one snake of the same species yet one is an adult and the other is a juvenile)
Possible solution: (a seperate field to define the age of the animal) eg. hatchling, juvenile, sub-adult, adult.
This way the animal could be properly defined for the feeding reminders.
In my own setup I have added an extra descriptive to the latin name (eg. Lp. g. californiae & Lp g. californiae (babies) ) and then changed the feed interval. A little cumbersome but it works.
Also:
For animals that are cooled, maybe some sort of override so that these animals don't pop up in the feed reminder.
Well my reminder tells me I have to go feed a baby and get ready for work, I got 1/2 an hour...think I can make it?
Keep up the great work, I am sure everyone appreciates it.
Cheers
Jim

LotusE: I got it working. only thing I can figure out now, is this:
Enclosures, I enter the data, but I can't assign an animal to it, the box just says none?
Feeding reminder: Can figure out how to work that.. is there a section on your forum that asks the same questions? I can look them up to make it easier...
Thanks!
