Wow thanks for all the info. It was a very weird situation. I had never had an animal eat substrate and I was already worried about him being WC and not feeding, dehydration, the whole thing.

So much we don't know yet!

I like cypress for my carpet pythons... works really well.

Wow amazing info eyespy! I guess it's true... you do learn something new everyday! I'm glad I read this thread, lol.

As for Jenn... I use cypress mulch for all of my humidity loving herptiles. You can use a bottom layer of cypress and maybe a top layer of spaghnum moss. Moss is really great for holding water, but you have to make sure it's clean... don't let it get too moist in the enclosure or your snake could end up with blisters! Good luck

Cypress is great. we use it for almost everyone. instead of baking it we treat it with provent a mite as we want the wood to stay moist.
