Sigh, this topic again? Snakes have no emotion one way or the other, all they know is how to eat and sleep and keep themselves alive. Their little brains don't know anything else, and never will.

Oh boy, well I wasn't trying to start an argument here, i know the anthropomorphism is a beaten to death subject around here. Believe me, coming from a background in the world of horses, where anthropomorphising an animal will most likely cause injury or death, I know that is not a good thing in most cases.

Anways, I probably should've stated my question differently, and using the subject "personality?" didn't help, seeing as snakes are not people. I obviously fired off my message a little to quickly

However, I don't think considering a snake to be watching me is considered anthropomorpism. I never said he was watching me because he was "interested" in me. Anyways, I guess, if you want to get technical, I was just wondering about the behavioral habits of BPs, but since I have met a few this past week, I now know first hand. They seemed to be a lot less "spastic" than colubrids, and more inclined to just "hang out" than have to be moving... I guess they don't seem to be as inclined to think of humans as a threat, which is a real good thing in my book, as I like to handle my snakes. Of course, this is my experience from handling a couple of adults, and I know there are exceptions (like the "pit-viper" BP baby that I met -- right Tim? lol) I really enjoyed my first BP experience, and I'm going to be getting a couple in the near future. Thanks for the input all.

Whoa, no need to be getting crazy Mykee... did you happen to notice the "LOL"? Obviously not, unless you don't know what it means... I was JOKING. I KNOW snakes don't understand. I'm not a moron, and no need to say something like "well, you sounded like it from that post", I was KIDDING, you know, haha Laugh Out Loud? Whatever....

Emroul, I apologize, this topic has been beaten to death, but still manages to rear it's ugly head every so often.
Snakelet, Bp's, compared to other snakes, are fairly docile and laid back. That does not mean that they are less easily stressed. They tend to be aware of their surroundings, but aloof to the whole thing. I think they have the best "personalities" of any snake. Big enough to satisfy that 'snake need' yet docile enough to allow a child to handle it.

Mykee, it only rears its ugly head when somebody personalizes their BP in a totally harmless way, and "professionals" jump down their throats about how their BP has no emotions. Sorry if this is mean or off-the-mark, but as a recreational snake owner, I don't see anything wrong with giving your BP a false personality as long as your still taking care of it.

By all means, Mykee, if someone is clearly neglecting their snake as a result of anthropomorphism, speak up. Tell them off. But I don't see how it's constructive or even worth your time to "beat the topic to death" with posts like your previous ones about your BP not caring about you, blah blah. It's true, but what's the point? That's not what we're talking about.

I found your most recent comment in this thread to be much more constructive, and much more representative of the type of community at ssnakess that encourages me to continue posting. I'm not suggesting that you should cater your comments to please the masses, but why be so obstinate about forcing your professional attitudes about snakes upon those of us who are small-time owners?

Please try not to take this personally, but I think you're starting to lose your paitients just a little bit here on the site. I know where you're coming from, look at my number of post and my sign up date. I too get tired of the same topics and some of the same uneducated questions over and over again. So what I do is try to pick and chose. If I know that a thread is going to drive me batty and make me post something I may wish I hadn't then I often don't even read it. This post is a prime example. I looked at this thread for days saying to my self, "Don't even read it cause you know what you'll find in there." Well I read it anyway and here's what I think about the whole thing.
I agree wish lilyskip, it's only out of control and ungly when people come on to these threads and try and burst peoples bubbles. Have your beliefes and let others have theirs as long as they aren't hurting the animals who cares if they think it talks to them or loves them. When someone wants to buy a ball from me and it's their first snake and they ask me what kind of personality they have, I won't correct them. I'll tell them that balls have wonderful personalities AND that they are docile and secretive. And if they want to know what kind of music they like I won't tell them that they don't have ears. I'll tell them to play the Lion King soundtrack and they'll love it as long as it's not too loud.
My point is if you don't like the topic and you think it's an ugly one don't take part if the information given and the topic it's self is harmless.

Trevor, you have a point, it does get monotonous answering the same uneducated questions over and over and over again. I'll pick my battles.
Lilyskip; touchy today, aren't we?..., I, by no means am a professional, nor have I ever misrepresented myself as such. I just do as much research as I can, learn all that I can, and allow my snakes to teach me what they can. I am a 'recreational' ball python owner. I love each and every one of my snakes, but I am just lucky enough to have the resources at hand to have a few more than the average BP owner.

Sorry. Oftentimes I read your posts and they come off very combative and arrogant. That might not be how you mean them to sound, but it frustrates me to see people's questions answered that way. Like Trevor said, get used to hearing the same questions from people that haven't searched the entire message board for the answers or whatever. I just resent the attitude. (again, perhaps there is none, but this is the way it comes off to me...I doubt I'm alone in that.)

Trevor, there are VERY few people on this site who have responded to as many posts as you, and at the same time, appear not to get frustrated and remain cool by "uneducated questions" (yes, the code) tens of hundreds of times. I commend you on your self-restraint. I can only hope to have the self-control that you and a few select others posess. *Chanting* Ummmmmmmmmmmmm..........
