What is illogical about removing a member that is being a highly dysfunctional member and causing a lot of problems and creating an unfriendly environment?

Well the mods here at sSnakeSs.com are the furthest thing from that. We keep our personal feelings out of it, and everyone is given ample chance to change what they are doing that threatens their posting priveleges on the site. Also, for the most part when a member is banned it is not the decision of one mod or admin, but a team decision

Well, internet forums by nature are a bastion for free exchange of opinions and ideas. The idea of banning someone because what they are saying is unpopular or problematic just seems contradictory to the purpose of a forum.

Forums are for discussion, free change of ideas, sharing, etc. We are a community, and we do not ban people for saying unpopular things, but we do ban people for harassment, flaming, etc. Why should a friendly community such as sSnakeSs have to put up with people that only want to cause others problems. Not only is this unproductive, but it also impacts the community as whole. If people do not agree and wish to abide by the set TOS (this is viewed before registration), which is very fair, then they will deal with the consequences. Also another point, this IS a family rated site, so we cannot have swearing or any adult content due to young or sensitive members.

Geeze.. She even admitted to being a Forum Nazi in a PM. What's up with that?!

Because though you have the right to express yourself, OTHERS have the right not be insulted, harassed, insulted, etc.

Yeah, I don’t think I can support the banning of anyone from a message board. I mean this is the internet. If you are offended by something, skip over it. No one can be physically harmed and if they are harassed they chose to be because they voluntary read what was written. Statements like: “…but we do ban people for harassment, flaming, etc. Why should a friendly community such as sSnakeSs have to put up with people that only want to cause others problems. Not only is this unproductive, but it also impacts the community as whole…” simply wraps censorship in a more attractive package.

SCReptiles makes a great point. But you gotta remember SC, these boards are run by canadians. Us Americans are too used to our crazy rights like freedom of speech.

Being Canadian has nothing to do with it. For Instance, AOL has a set of Terms Of Service (TOS) rules that their Thousands upon thousands of members must abide by or their accounts get suspended and in some cases canceled. Our TOS rules are set and we expect our members to abide by them. If you read them over, they're really not that bad. SCreptiles, i see where you are coming from, but if someone was verbally attacking you on our forums, would you want everyone reading it? Or would you rather that one of our Moderators took down? We dont ban people at the drop of a dime, there is a process that is followed. Any member that breaks the TOS is given a warning, if they continue to break it, then it results in a temperary down time or a full out Ban. We're not going through the forums looking for the next person to ban. We all enjoy reading everyone's posts and taking part in threads with everyone. This is infact a family site so really, there is no place for the few people who come here just to tell someone else that their questions are crap and then proceed to put them down because of what they ask.. Or the people that come here just to cause flame wars, and i think we're a great community because of it!!.

Is it not obvious that a member who signs up and does nothing but use cuss words be banned?

Or (which has happened on another forum) when I new member comes on and does nothing but PM people rude insults?

I see no reason people like this should be allowed to continue using a particular forum, and it has nothing to do with "rights" it has to do with not wanting a board full of jerks, people cussing and using the forum for fun.

You can call it a message board if you wish, but to most of us this is a community. When members of the community are hurt continuously by someone they will be removed regardless of who feels it should not happen. People have the right to say whatever they wish your right, but if they want to bring negativity to our community they will be asked to stop, if they continue they will be asked again, and again and then they will be removed. There are a ton of other places to post that are unmoderated and if thats a persons cup of tea then they can post there. This has always been a community atmosphere and it continue to be so. We have a very small list of about 5 people who have been banned, just some have continued to register under various aliases and then eventually have there IP banned. We ban people as a last resort. But as long as people dont know how to be civil, people will always be banned. Period.
