Most stores do not have a live animal guarantee, and if by chance they do, its usually just a short time frame. If this were the case, they would be replacing more than they would be selling...

the room 101

I know exactly what its like to keep dogs and cats i have had plently of different animal in my years. including dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, squirrles, fish, snakes, lizzards, tarantulas, rats. and some things i probly just don't remember. Maybe its just me and i see cats and dogs as being very easy to take care of. To me they have basic needs that i belive should be common sense. But thats me i've always had animals my whole life. I've found more joy in taking care of reptiles cause in the process i'm challanged more than keeping cats and dogs would have ever been. I'm not saying there not as important as reptiles. Because when i move out i plan on getting a lab or a cat (whatever i can talk my boyfriend into). I just don't have the space to have a cat or dog roam freely in my house(for now).

It's sad when any animal gets mistreated. just my thoughts.

Cats and dogs are definetely not easier to care for! Way too many dogs, especially, lead sad and heartbreaking lives because they require too much effort. Too much time. and the fact is, dogs would never, ever treat a human being that way! The difference is, most people don't know how to care for reptiles. If you do know how, they are not as difficult as dogs. I own reptiles, dogs, and cats. My dog requires more time, attention, and work than everyone else combined! But I enjoy her and she's worth it. My reptiles, since I am reptile knowledgeable, are fairly easy to care for. but that's my opinion.

when i got my first snake i had researched Kingsnakes for about 3 months before i even talked to my mom about it...not only was i well informed in that extent, but, the people that own the pet shop specialize in reptile care, so they showed me everything i needed to know and even recamended what lighting and heating sorces to buy for him.

Chances are very high that the beardie will end up being advertised in the local newspaper to be for sale, most likely months after it's been neglected. It's a horrible thing. I think petstore owners need to realize that even though it might cost you business, you should always make sure they know enough to care for the animal. Ask questions, almost like quizzes, and if they're frightened tell them to come in and handle the petstore animals before purchasing.
Thats my 2 cents,

yeh, that would be great but people won't adhere to that. The bottom line is that petstores are in business to make money and not a lot more.

I have to admit when i bought my first reptile (savannah monitor) i didn't know much about them, but i learned, i wanted to learn more about them, i still spend every chance i get reading everything on reptiles. Now i research anything that i might enjoy having. And now i teach other people about them

I got by BP not even knowing how big she would get. I thought I would be able to keep her in a 10 gal aquarium all her life...WOW what a big mistake! I am now planning on buying her 3rd home, her final home, a 75 gal aquarium, after I purchase everything else...such as extra fake plants, a couple of extra hides, and of course another UTH. I now do research on everything I think I might even have the slightest enjoyment in having in my home. Such as the new baby boy bp I plan on purchasing this week!
