An interesting side note on this one. Pay careful attention to where the spider bit the rodent...

Its been my experience that T's attack the head when trying to take down large prey items.

It looks as if they have figured out which end bites and they grab it there. I think it also stands to reason that ramming the fangs into the skull would produce a faster kill too.

There is my $.02 worth

Chris, the spider went right for the head and I could hear it squeek for about for a couple minitues and then I watched it twitch till it stopped there was blood seaping throught the head. I kept an eye on the prey. I only feed prey that doesn't have their eyes completely open..just to be safe. I welcome any comments and advice from you cause I respect your knowledge and experience.

Thank you
Nuno

Thats what I was pointing out on the pic Nuno... I find it amazing that an organism as primitive as a tarantula is smart enough to know to do that and I wanted to illustrate it to the newbs that might be reading here.

As you will all find out... and what any keeper will tell you... is that no matter how many you have or how long you have been keeping them you will always find a new surpise or learning experience on a regular basis.

Have you named your spiders yet Nuno?
