Re: Should I be concerned?
Good news about the mites, not so good about the ants. You will have to get yourself an anteater

Dave do you have Jeyes Fluid in Ireland. I used to use that at about 50/50 with water and paint it on where the ants were and never see then again. But Jeyes Fluid does stink lol

We use to buy these ant stakes that would work great... The ants would carry the poison back to the nest killing them all... but my wife couldn't find them and brought home a substitute and the ants could of cared less about it... We had to resort to a spray call "Hot Shot"... That got most of them but there is still hundreds of stragglers and scouts that I keep kill one at a time with my index finger... It's starting to get to me... I'm the kind of guy that puts flies and spiders outside because I believe everything has the right to live it's life to it's fullest... But if you go after my food all bets are off...

It's so the snake can't soak in the water and wash off the fresh treatment and also contaminate drinking water and ingest the chemicals.

^^^^ this. Ingesting the chemical is dangerous, toxic beforehand it dries which is also why you're supposed to wait until the enclosure is dry to put the animal back.

Re: Should I be concerned?
In the case of nix its fine to put the animal back when it's still wet but it must be allowed to dry before putting the bowl back in or it will not be as effective.

Re: Should I be concerned?
the first few treatments i did, i had put the snake back with the water bowl. i hope he didnt ingest chemicals and that hes not going to experience any negative side effects. but ive done 4-5 treatments now and he seems fine, hes eating well and behaves normally. im glad the nix seems to be working for me, i havent seen mites since the first treatment

The dilution makes it safe for almost all species, thamnophis and heterodon require weaker concentrations because they are prone to have reactions to it. Sounds like there's nothing to worry about, Patrick.
