Try using hot glue. It holds well and removes easily with a razor blade.

or...alternative theory...your snake is nocturnal and semi-arboreal. they climb at night. your thermometer cannot support her weight and falls off...when she falls, she is startled and the coils tighten around whatever she's holding on to (thermometer).

or your version...whatevs

Now that you mention it yes it does. I didn't think of them when I was trying to find a picture. A few of their album covers would have fit the bill. I have most of their albums.
