Re: picked up a WC western coachwhip today

Amazing snake! I really like these guys and racers. I've been caring for a Black-Masked Racer and although he can be sort of fidgety and nippy at times, he has definitely made me want to look in to getting a racer or coachwhip of my own at some point.

Nice snake. I have both Racers and Coachwhips, fast and defensive snakes. Keep WC away from any other snakes you have, in case it has parasites.

I come across some bright pink and white ones every now and then while hiking. They are so hard to catch. I have ran straight into cacti while going after these guys.

Coacwhips are cool snakes. I had a 5 foot one in our college collection back in the day.He was actually one of the most docile snakes in the collection and very curious and aware of his surroundings.

Someone brought him into work about a year ago. I work at a nature center so we kept him there. No one else likes dealing with him since he can be so jumpy so it's pretty much just me taking care of him.

I can get Racers, but if you are in NY, you would have to get a Collect & Possess License from the NYSDEC, as they are native to NY. I can not buy or sell them to anyone in NY who does not have the license. Even when I got mine from a seller in Fla., I had to send him a copy of my license.

So northern racer or southern doesn't make a difference?

If they are black racers, it doesn't make a difference where they come from.
