Re: Eastern Diamondback Rattler's
Ah, I've never even run across one in the wild, much less handled any. Was wondering whether you meant sweet disposition or looks.

Re: Eastern Diamondback Rattler's
Jesus man. I'd love to keep a rattler some day but the scare the **** outta me. Yours look outstanding. I encountered my first wild one a few months back and while it was totally cool and just slithered away when i stepped towards it, it freaked me out.
However that experience made me appreciate them more and I've grown to like them.
Curious, would you say they're anymore easilly stressed than other snakes? Less so?
It looks like you keep them in a busy area in your home (correct me if im wrong).
Jesus again...i keep looking at you holding it barehands and all and it just gives me the willies lol. Beautiful creatures though.

Rattlesnakes tend to be very nervous by nature and can become stressed very quickly.
I would say yes they become stressed more easely than many snake's.

Re: Eastern Diamondback Rattler's
Very nice EDBs! I have a pair myself. My male came from a friend who took him away from this dumb kid that was abusing him. Despite all that, he's sweet as can be. He rattles a lot, but has never tried to strike at me. My female I just picked up at the Hamburg show this past Saturday. So far, she seems unsure of me and her new surroundings, but not aggressive or defensive.
I would NEVER freehandle, or advocate freehandling though. EDBs are generally calm snakes, but all it takes is one mistake or one misunderstanding and you could die, or be left with permanent disfigurements. I handle my venomous gently, but I do it carefully with hooks and Hex-Armor gloves. Why take risks you don't have to?

Re: Eastern Diamondback Rattler's
This is how I like to interact with all my snake's, I know the danger's and have been bit before by a canebreak rattler. I don't recommend people to free handle dangerous snake's but I don't condemn them for doing it either it's each person's choice. (I know your not doing that)
Of my three EDB's I can only free handle two of them, my other female I pickup with one hand and a snake hook until she calm's down alittle more.
I doubt that I answered your question about "why do it" but it's kinda hard to put into word's.
BTW- Feel free to post a pic of your EDB's here.

Re: Eastern Diamondback Rattler's
It seem's there's someone on this forum who is "infuriated" by me free handling my snakes and say's that I'm doing harm to the hobby. Let me first say that in my state where I live owning venomous snake's or free handling is NOT against the law. As I said before it's each person's own choice how they handle their reptile's, as for hurting the "hobby" handling snake's is my hobby. What's sad is we cant seem to all come together over the love we share for these creature's, instead we Bash each other because we believe our way is the only right way.

Re: Eastern Diamondback Rattler's
Yes it does upset me when people post pictures of free-handling venomous snakes on public sites. While it's not against the law, it can encourage others to try it and take unnecessary risks. There's simply NO good reason to take that level of risk. You've already been bitten once- when's the next going to be? Will you survive it?
ANY venomous bite ends up on the news and adds fuel to the fire of HSUS and other lobbying groups to ban venomous snakes. Free handling is reckless, dangerous and just plain not necessary.
That's my opinion. I'm entitled to it, as you are to yours. I worked very hard to train in responsible, careful husbandry and handling of my venomous snakes, but at any point a new law could wipe it all away.
I know I'm not going to change your mind, but please don't showcase pictures of free handling.

Re: Eastern Diamondback Rattler's
Well now everyone know's who the complaining party is.lol
I'm glad to see you "trained" to be a "responsible" keeper, but your also a very judgemental, oneway,my way or the highway kinda person!
If you don't like my pic's just don't read my thread, simple enough. When I got bit by a canebreak it wasn't in the news, and as far as people copying what I do I have never recommended that anyone copy me. With that said I'm not changing doing what I love because of what MIGHT happen to me or someone else. Thank you for your concern.
Now if you don't mind I'd like to get back to what this thread is all about, MY EASTERN DIAMONDBACK RATTLER'S!
