That sounds awesome! I think you should just go for the bioactive substrate- especially in a beautiful enclosure that big. It's not a matter of if bioactive substrate will work its more a matter of what type of bioactive substrate will work and how to make it. No snake lives on paper towels and fine aspen shavings in the wild lol. Again congrats on the indigo- I have been reading on them, cool snakes man. Start keeping an eye out for shower doors- the best quality free glass a snake - cage maker can get.

I'm definitely leaning that way. When I step him up to his mid-sized enclosure, I might go ahead and go bioactive with it and get some practice with what works.
And just an update on him:
He seems to be doing well. As I mentioned, he was in blue when he arrived. The breeder said he needed to eat soon, so I offered him a meal the day after I got him, just to see if he'd eat. The only thing I had in the freezer small enough for him was pinkies that my daughter is feeding to her young corn snake. He ate two of those despite being in deep blue. I left him alone for a couple of days, and in the meantime, stopped by the local pet store and picked up some hoppers for him. Yesterday I noticed he's finally out of the blue phase, so I offered him a hopper, which he took down like a champ. So, he ate twice in the first four days I had him. He should shed within the next couple of days. I'm anxious to see his true colors.

What is the process to legally own an Indigo? One of my all time favorite snakes right there.

Depends on where you live. But, for all states, you need a federal interstate commerce permit, unless you're buying from within the state. And, if you live in a state where they're indigenous, as I do, then extra state permits will be required, which may be very difficult, or impossible to obtain. Depends on which of the indigenous states you live in.

Texas. So, my guess is it is the same process for the canebrake, however, with this one I could buy instate?

Unless Texas has any specific laws, which I doubt, you can buy one from within your state with no permit at all. If you can find one.
