They are miniature carbon copies of their larger cousins. Same proportions and everything, only difference is slightly more forward oriented eyes and a slightly different head shape. The skin is VERY smooth as well and they are similar in behavior to carpet pythons with regards to handling.

Re: Pygmy Python Thread

It depends on the size of the pinky imo. But from whats readily available, I highly doubt it. How much do newborn pinkies typically weigh?

Re: Pygmy Python Thread

pinkies can be less than half a gram, fuzzies are usually 3+, over here at least; probably depends on the species of mouse, there are some very small mouse species

My adult male took a 5 gram fuzzy a few days back, I HIGHLY doubt a hatchling could take something 3-5 grams...could be wrong but I just don't see it. My adults heads are 1 cm wide by 2 or 3 long... We are talking about snakes with adult sizes half or less than half of a cornsnake to give you an idea.

If this is the case, than yes they probably can take them. I haven't seen cbb hatchlings from this species so I can't speak from experience. I do know they lay relatively large eggs in comparison to the size of the adults, but its still small..

And I can't find a single picture of a hatchling perth online

Re: Pygmy Python Thread

Thanks Marvel! The eyes are very cool. Anyways, after doing a bit more research and talking to a few people I know breeding these, I decided that I would house them together and not brumate them as its not really needed. They locked up only a few hours after putting them in the same tub.

Re: Pygmy Python Thread

No, breeding is typically in winter months. In Australia that would be about right now, but something like our december I believe. However from what I understand, the Antaresia complex doesnt need to be put into brumation although it may help initiate breeding. Same deal with housing seperately, they arent cannablisitc and found close in proximity in the wild, so year round cohabbing is a possibility.

Interesting. I have talked to a few extremely experienced carpet python guys on here that believe in co-habbing breeding pairs as well.

Yeah they do....

Close proximity in the wild yes... cases of eating each other in captivity while co-habitating... yes
