When to change substrate?

Where is this coming from?

I don't think I said anything to offend you, I just said to get rid of the bacteria you have to use soap or detergent.

I used to when I used papertowels and newspaper. These days I just use loose substrate such as cocohusk. Everytime my snakes go to the bathroom I just scoop it out. Every month or so the substrate layer gets too thin so I just completely take everything out, clean the cage and refill it with new substrate.

He's been a bit of a jerk lately and no one is sure why.

i scoop out 'presents' once/week, change substrate every few months or as needed.
I use aspens for all of my snakes (mostly colubrids) and have had no problems

I've used aspen since I had my snakes a year ago but recently it's just been getting worse with the dust. My variable king snake didn't mind the change, I'm just hoping my mbk can adapt as well it else I will have to try a diffrent sunstrate
