SoulReaper,
I wasn't making fun of how the guy looked to feel better about myself, I can never seem to do my make up as well as he has.
I think he did a great job, I don't see any stuble and since I can't see the butt in those pics I couldn't tell it was a guy at all.
Don't take it personally man, I just find it amusing that there is a whole new generation of cape wearing, testoserone deficient teenaged boys still painting their nails black and listening to depressing music. That stuff is fair game for mockery since we're not talking about a birth defect or physical handicap, it's not making fun of how he looks but rather laughing at what he's chosen to do to himself. But hey if it gets him laid I say go for it, I'd do it too if I could play guitar or something...

It's hard not to take something personally when someone like you comes out and bashes things that others may enjoy, or even love. I love this band, i have been following them for almost 5 years now, and not once i have judged any of the talented musicians in the band because of the way they look or dress, just because someone may wear black, it doesn't make you or anyone else any better.
By the way, i don't know too much about this "whole new generation" you talk about, as far as i know, personal and depressive lyrics have always been a part of Rock 'N Roll. Capes, makeup, coloured hair and nail polish have been around since the early eighties.
This might be a reality check for you so read closely: Birth defects and physical handicaps are not the only things in life that might get you depressed, upset, suicidal...etc. Some people deal with things differently than others so please keep an open mind before you imply that some kid's favorite band is "laughable" just because of the way they dress...THAT way of thinking is just plain pathetic and selfish.
You say that people who wear capes and paint their nails are testosterone deficient...very nice macho attitude man, that's very "testosterone proficient" of you...lol, keep it up.
Also you said "If it gets him laid i say go for it".....the music you listen to might be THAT brainless, but i think you are missing the point of this band and many others who follow the same genre, getting LAID is not really the target at hand here.
By the way, i've read your sarcasm around the forums before, you sound like the typical "class clown" that you see in every high school class. Always trying to be funny, always being a smartass, but in all truth, it just makes you sound like 12 year old, grow up dude.

I gotta agree with MouseKilla on this one... people can do/dress what/how they want, but I still find it amusing. I too, thought he was a woman.
I find it strange enough that some women spend upwards of 700$ yearly on getting their nails done, but guys getting manicures and their fingernails painted black?
And let's face it, all that suicidal depressed stuff is all for show and money. Not to say that some people don't actually have problems and need help, but give me a break.... if you actually want to kill yourself because your girlfriend dumped you or your mother drinks, then I think your gene pool is trying to tell you something.
And what do you mean, depression has always been a part of rock and roll? first of all, rock and roll is pretty recent, and when's the last time Elvis wrote a song about how terrible and suicidal the world is, and when did he wear black makeup and nail polish?
Sorry, this "I hate the world and myself and my parents and school so I'll just wear black makeup and do my nails" is extremely temporary and while some people look back and think that some things they did in their childhood was a little silly, many of these will be downright embarassed: "Remember when you were 15 and wore black nail polish and eye liner and lipstick and kept saying you wanted to kill yourself and join satan?"...

Nope, it's making money. These people are hardly being themselves and unique. They saw a niche that had yet to be filled, and found a way to apeal to all the impressionable and "depressed" teenagers who wanted a conformist way to rebel against the "awful" world. And boy did it ever work! I have no idea who this particular person is or the exact music they play, but I am familiar with this genre and it will be short lived and ridiculed.
Just wanted to ad: i am aware that the "dark" look is simply what some people are into and find attractive. Nothing wrong with that. The extremes are what I find laughable.

Wow I didn't think Mousekilla went overboard at all. A little poke of fun here and there keeps people on there toes and laughing. I make fun of how people look all the time, but I aim the best and most jokes at myself. Don't take life to seriously kinda thing.
But then you Zoe, you jump in and actually say saomething as laughable as this:
"I have no idea who this particular person is or the exact music they play, but I am familiar with this genre and it will be short lived and ridiculed."
I see you must have been around for lots of rock and rolls history. For one you admit you know nothing of the band but then state as fact the genre will be ridiculed and "short lived" Says who? You? LOL. Um o.k.
It's a style and way of living just like any other. Hippies...rockers...pop....people into raving...etc...All those musics come with a whole lifestyle of clothing, thoughts, morals, activities, etc. To say it will be "ridiculed" is absolutly the most small minded thing I have ever heard, not to mention totally immature.
When you grow up and join the REAL world, you'll find people no longer care to stick with "their group" people no longer care what someone wears and will be friends with them as long as they are true to themselves....People no longer care who is wearing what in their circle of friends as long as your friends aren't just trying to be cool....normal level headed interesting adults will talk to anyone and be friends with anyone regardless of how they dress...why? Because we aren't in high school anymore and its not looks that matter...Its a person who does what THEY want to do, and doesn't stop or start because of the way people like you think and "ridicule" them.
No offense personally I suppose to you but that whole post of yours was totally immature, small minded and childish. And I am not even a fan of that genre myself. I am a fan of treating people the way they treat me, if someone is cool and decides to wear all red for two years, what the hell do I care? Only people who enjoy wasting time and joining cliques because of clothing make predictions like yours.

"The extremes are what I find laughable."
What I find laughable is that you seem to think its "is extremely temporary" Considering those of us who aren't 20 years old remember the whole "goth" crowd from when WE were in high school....YEARS AGO.
Pick up a underground paper, magazine or get some older friends. They will tell you the same thing. Its not new, its been around for ages.
Marisa
P.S. I'd like too add aside from everything I wrote, my ENTIRE point is you saying it "will be ridiculed" makes about as much sense as me declaring brown hair will be ridiculed from now on. What is that a ruling of some sort? LMAO

Alright man, you're taking me way too seriously. I never said they weren't musically talented, I couldn't do that because I have never heard of them let alone listened to any of their music. Somehow I just knew that it followed in the tradition of The Cure and Nine Inch Nails from when I was weird 15 year old with issues (though I didn't put on the vampire costume myself).

Uhhh yeah, early eighies was 20 years ago, 20 later means a new generation. This is now a marketing formula as much the ones used to make boy bands. Same gimmicks, new emotional teenagers to sell to.

Who was talking about making fun of depression? Not me. I was only saying that when you're talking about the way someone looks it is only unfair to make fun if the person can help it. If you are a male that wears make up and nail polish then you can expect some laughs, it comes with the territory so get used to it.

Zoe hit this one on the head, you're right getting laid is just a welcomed side effect of this pop-goth marketing ploy. The main goal is cash.

Twelve eh? Well that more credit than people who like me would usually give me. lol! I'll admit to being a smartass, it's my gift, it's my curse, what can I say aboot that? But just so you know, you got me all wrong here I think, I'm laughing nostalgically because I was one of the "freaks" way back before I got kicked out of highschool, not some wedgie giving, football tossing jock. Maybe it's time you grew up and stopped taking yourself and some silly band so seriously.

I agree the main goal is cash.
What I do NOT agree with is someone stating something as fact when they clearly know nothing about what they are talking about...ie.. Zoe and her opinion of fashion trends LMAO. The bottom of her post was simply ridiculous.

i could really care less about how they look. i mena the members of one of my favorite bands Slipknot wear masks and i just think it makes them that much more unique. as for the music they play being short lived, id say that would be quite doubtful. HIM didnt become one of the biggest and most popular bands in Europe if people thought their genre of music would be short lived. and i beleive the members of HIM dont play just for the money, i beleive they are mostly in it for the fans. but as for Mousekilla. Marisa, Zoe, and Soul Reaper you are all entitled to your own opinions and i respect that.

for as far back as i can remember, i have always been into Rap/Hip Hop (now i know that 95% of the people on this site i will say, 'rap is crap' and what not, but i could care less).. That being said, i have not stopped talking to friends of mine cause they went punk, or goth or whatever, i could care less what they wear, how they talk or what they listen to, if one of them wants to paint his nails black and wear puffy shirts, that's his choice, and i wouldn't bug him about it or whatever. But if someone else did, i would be right there to defend him.. Hell, im still friends with Shane, even if he does have pics of guys in tight jeans playing the guitar in his bedroom. Let's not take a thread about what avatar someone should have, and turn it into a fight over what people should and shouldn't wear..

Matt K, i dont think people will say "rap is crap", i certainly know i dont think so. now do i listen to rap? no. do i hate it?of course not, i just have a different music preference thats all. now my best friend listens to nothing but rap and is what people consider a "prep". i think we are all the same and people need to quite puttin people into different categorys depending on what they wear and listen to. if you cant do that i think you need to grow up.

Just to show I'm a good sport here's one of me. A hundred and thirty pounds of coffee and sarcasm (and in this case some chocolate fudge icing). Do your worst.

Ever wonder what happens when freaks breed? This kid is more goth than you'll ever be in your arm cutting life. Don't make fun of her, she was born that way.

Interesting thread. The feeling I get from the whole "Goth" thing is that it is really a lifestyle for hard core fans. The $$$ point is a valid one, as I own a small recording studio, and have been in the recording bizz for 15 years....believe me, as pure and honest the musicians seem to be, money is a huge part of it, as it has to be! They do it for a living!
Although I have never been impressed by the playing or songwriting of the "goth" bands, there are good ones and bad ones, just as there is "Good" rap and bad rap.
One last word on rap, most has no melody, so it is really not "music" by definition.
I'm a song guy, need a song!
