No clue, I found him dead in his cage.
well fed, water in the bowl, temps all good.
Now I am really glad I held back the litter he sired. One baby looks just like dad.
His son.....(JR)

He was only 3 and had a decade of siring litters ahead of him.
Sometimes they can live 12-15 years with a few rare cases living longer.
In the wild it is a lot less.

Thamnophis radix - Christmas Albino Iowa strain, High Orange.
Common name "Plains Garter Snake"
When he mated with the Het for Aneythristic female, the babies were lke a bag of skittles, 3 different albino strains (One snow) & a high black Anery all in one clutch.
One additional snow, another Albino and one Anery were stillborn.
Dorothy really wanted me to sell the babies, but I held on to them anyways, glad I did, his bloodlines live on

That is correct.
I have one snake here that was produced by crossing an Albino with a melanistic and it produced what we call a "Dirty Snow"....

Re: Wayne's Garter Snake Photo thread
Sorry for you loss
I'm glad you'll still be able to work with his gorgeous colorings.
That "dirty snow" is pretty adorable as well.

Pretty cool project, could I get a fullbody show? There are no "dirty snow retics" but when you breed a calico with a GC you get a melanistic snake for some reason, might be cool to get a dirty snow retic. Would be hard as hell though, 2X recessive + a dominant gene, yikes.
