Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

Thanks em!! Loki has matured into the amazing indigo he was meant to be. It's always a joy to see him.

Thanks, Albert! He is, by far, my favorite reptile ever.

[QUOTE

Thank you! No, the snakes of the Drymarchon genus aren't constrictors. That semi-coil that you saw in the video was actually Loki using his body to pin the rat to the ground while he chewed on it and swallowed it. I cut out the part were he dragged it around, snagged it on something, eviscerating it, then nearly ripped the rat in half before swallowing it backwards. They just overpower their prey.[/QUOTE]

Drymarchons definitely thrash their prey around. Fed my YT Cribo yesterday and it ripped the head right off a chick. I'm always on guard when feeding her bc she's so crazy.

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

I don't handle him a lot, but I get him out once in a while.

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

How is he when handled? Chill or squirrelly?

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

He's usually moving, but I wouldn't call him squirrelly. He's not like a milk snake trying to get away. He just moves to go places.

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

It's been a while since I updated the Loki thread. Not great photos, but they're what I snapped a couple of days ago.

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

Properly nice looking snake that eminart. Nice to seen something different-Indigos over here in the UK are almost unheard of.

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

Loki is such a magnificent and majestic creature Em. The Eastern Indigo and Albino Olive Python are the holy grail of snakes to me.

It has been a while since I measured, but I think he's right around 6 ft. His growth has really slowed down now. Unfortunately, I think he's a little on the small side for his age. He's 3 1/2 years old now. He might slowly creep past the 7 ft mark, but I don't think he's ever going to be the 8 footer I'd hoped. But, that's ok, he's still awesome.

He is still awesome. If I've read right, it seems he's always been small for his age since you got him. Just curious, do you know anything about his parents and whether they were smaller than normal for their age? Wondering how much genetics vs feeding plays into it.
