Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

His enclosure looks awesome! I can't wait to get my indigo next Saturday. I'm getting a Texas Indigo, but hope to get an Eastern someday. The guy I'm getting it from breeds Easterns as well so I'll talk to him about the permit and legalities.

That's awesome! Who are you getting it from?

Thanks. Yes, it's all real. I'm still experimenting to find some sort of grass or other ground cover that will live more than a few weeks.

The light was made by me from LED strip lighting.

The breeder is Steve Binning here in Springfield, PA. He's just under a 2hr drive from me so I'll be picking it up rather than shipping.

Maybe Ivy or some weeds? (I once used bird weed mix seed and that covered quickly and looked very cool)

The wife collected it from a creek near our old house. She had it in her flowers outside and was going to leave it when we were moving. I claimed it for my own and tossed it on the uhaul.

I'm trying something ivy-like right now. Our new house has a couple of different types of ground cover in some shaded areas. I cut a few springs and planted them in the enclosure. We'll see how it goes.

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

Loki was out of his tub for dinner yesterday, so I got some video.

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

Very nice to see some video action. Loki is a great looking snake. I like the red throat morph. It adds just enough subtle color. Can't wait to get an Eastern next year. I'll have to make due with my Texas version until then.

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

I love the video! My white's tree frog did as well, at least the music - he started croaking loudly in response. I can picture captions like for a silent movie. "Look! A rat!" lol.

Loki is just gorgeous. I was expecting him to hit the rat and coil around it, but they don't constrict as much as say, a corn snake from the looks of it?

Thanks! And...

The Texas version certainly isn't "making do". I've seen some gorgeous ones, and other than the color differences, they're pretty much the same snake as an eastern.

Thank you! No, the snakes of the Drymarchon genus aren't constrictors. That semi-coil that you saw in the video was actually Loki using his body to pin the rat to the ground while he chewed on it and swallowed it. I cut out the part were he dragged it around, snagged it on something, eviscerating it, then nearly ripped the rat in half before swallowing it backwards. They just overpower their prey.
