Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

Have you ever fed him avian prey? I didnt read all 10 pages lol. I guess that could add some variety to his diet, i fed my geckos the same thing daily for about a year and eventually they stopped eating superworms. Ive heard that birds can cause runny feces though lol

I haven't fed him any birds yet, but I have quail and starlings in the freezer for him. The quail are a bit big for him at this point, and I was waiting for the starlings to be frozen for at least a month, to help kill off parasites. They should be ready now though. So far, he's eaten rodents, snakes, fish, frog legs, and chicken. He seems to prefer the rodents, snakes, and fish.

Amazing snake and set up you've built for him.

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

How long does his feces take to get broken down, or do you just spot clean? My geckos feces is gone within 48 hrs, but considering your guy could eat my guys, im guessing it takes much longer?

He just moved into the Bioactive enclosure this week, so I'm not sure. But, yes, I spot clean to reduce the load.

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

I haven't posted anything about Loki in a while, so I thought I'd share a video I made of feeding time yesterday. It's kind of long, and not too exciting, but I love him. (Please overlook the missing preposition in the text. I should have proofread.)

Hahaha I love how excited he was and that he tied himself in a knot while looking where is the "start" point of this food, haha! Great video and amazing snake, shame that they are so rare and pricey.

hah, that was great! I had no idea he would eat a rattlesnake like that. Good that the rattler didn't go to waste. Loki seemed really excited, but wasn't sure how the heck he was going to eat it. I just loved him dragging it off into his lair. Very happy snake and wonderful enclosure habitat!

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

Thanks, Sylphie and Daisy. Yeah, he eats snakes fairly often, but he still hasn't mastered finding the head.

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

Loki is one of my favorite snakes on the forum Em. Where do you usually get the feeder snakes for him?

Thanks. They're (unfortunately) road killed snakes. I freeze them for a few weeks to kill off parasites.

Re: Loki, my Eastern Indigo

Loki looks awesome, a very impressive colubrid in size. How's the temperament with indigo's?

They're basically like a king cobra that doesn't bite. Mine was a little shy when he was small. He still huffs sometimes when I pick him up, or if he's generally displeased or excited about something. He spends most of his time in his burrow, but often has his head or up to half his body out, watching. He seems to spend more and more time out cruising, or just basking, the older he gets.
