lol If that's anything like the video where the kid is carried off, it's fake. Afaik a hawk would not be able to physically fly off like that with a dog. They can't even fly off with a rabbit that's probably less than half that weight. They can sort of hop around carrying it, but that's about it.

Hmm..at 3-6lbs for a small dog/cat it IS possible they could, depending on the size of the bird, but not very far. Even then, if it didn't fly off, they will sometimes ride the prey, so-to-speak, letting the talons do their work.

This is of course purely hypothetical given a hungry bird, a prey animal of the right dimensions, etc.

Well, 3-6 lbs is already heavier than the average hawk. A large eagle *might* be able to fly off with it, but they're not as common and I've never seen one around here. It would be a lot more likely that they'd land on the animal, killing it, and grip in a claw to hop/carry it somewhere else, but couldn't take off. I assume that's what you're referring to when you say "riding the prey."

Plus, I keep within arm's reach of my snakes, so most predators are not going to be inclined to go anywhere near them unless they were unusually comfortable with humans. Snakes move slowly, but can still easily become lost if you walk away, even without a bird or other predator involved.

Re: New Sunglow poss het anery girl

Nymeria continues to grow. I need to get a length on her soon, but the new scale I got says she's 1 lb 3.1 ounces which is apparently 541 grams. She still has a weaned rat in her, though, so she's probably closer to 500 grams.

She had her hide flipped over, and her tail all splayed out. I picked her up and she sucked it in, though. lol I guess she was flattening it out to increase surface area for digestion? >.>

And then back in her tub. She wasn't happy when I lifted the hide off her. haha
