new hide ideas?

does anyone out there have a suggestion what i could use as a new hide for mac? i have one of those half a log things but he's getting too big for it and ends up raising the log up with his back. some of the hides at petco don't look as if the entrance hole is big enough. thanks.

I like large diameter cork rounds that have been broken into half-pipes. They can be soaked around shed time to bump humidity.

+1 on the reptile basics hides. Those black plastic hides with the offset entrance are great. They're cheap, come in many sizes and are super easy to clean.

For a somewhat different and more natural look, I have some turtle shells that I use for hides. I live on a lake and find them once in a while, but if you look around on ebay and goodwill.com, you can sometimes find one at a good price. Just a thought...

I made a couple of hides and water bowls from styrofoam and tile grout. Using grout sealer at the last step will keep it water proof and clean up quick. All the best.

I like these, buy them from Walmart and my snakes love them, especially my female retic. There cheap and easy to modify, just cut a hole in the side and duct tape the inside to make it dark and presto a cheap hide. As the snake out grows it just buy the next bigger one and modify it the same way

Be very cautious using duct tape. If it is misapplied and the snake somehow attaches itself to it, you and your snake will not have a great time taking it off and damage will almost always result. I would advise against it simply because of that, but it's up to you of course.

Yeah im pretty cautious about how its applied, its been in there for months no problem. Haven't had problems with any of them but thinking of going to a cement mixing tub now for her.

The mixing tub will be a better choice. I am confident that you did just fine with the tape...but I have seen and heard some things over the years that would just make you shake your head.

if you have the time and about 25-30 dollars you can make your own with foam (the kind you put fake flowers in) hot glue and grout. (if you want you can also spray paint it) then you can have a custom one you built on your own i built my own and my snake buddy loves it.

Get a wash bowl and cut a hole in the side, put it upside down, or a big sweets container, some of my snake love them and will not use shop ones.

You might also want to swing by your local Goodwill store to check for suitable wooden bowls that can very easily be made into very acceptable hides. I have a number of different sized hides I got this way that I switch out when the snakes are ready for a larger hide. They usually cost anywhere from $1 to $3 and it takes me about 5 minutes to cut the hole in it for my snakes. This one is about 12 inches in diameter and 4 inches tall. It works great for my adult male Honduran Milk Snake. Just a thought...
