I wouldn't say I'm really good at that many things, but I am good at spotting snakes lol. Family/friends still have no idea how I spot a lot of the things I manage to spot.

Still planning on uploading some finds from last month. Had plenty of great finds and was probably the single greatest month of herping I've ever had.

Re: 2016 Herping Thread

Well here's a brief preview of what's to come. I don't have time to upload all the photos I'd like to upload right now.

First off, a western mud snake. This has been on the top of my list for the past few years and they've eluded me until now. About a week after I found this, I found two more!

Beautiful broad-banded water snake with crazy coloration and a nice dorsal stripe. I had seen this guy last July and was happy to see him doing well.

Lifer central newt

Gulf coast box turtle

Dekay's brown snake

Glossy crayfish snake. I had only seen one of these before this year, and it was a brief look before it slipped away. Towards the beginning of March I saw this one and three others.

Re: 2016 Herping Thread

Wow, it looks like you've had a heck of a spring already. Some great finds, and a fantastic shot of the Broadbanded. I'm more than a bit jealous, keep it coming man.

Re: 2016 Herping Thread

Terrible picture of my lifer Graham's crayfish snake. I cruised it on my way home with no camera and my phone was low on battery so I couldn't use the flash. Hopefully I'll see another soon so I can get some good pictures.

Monster softshell turtle

Juvenile western cottonmouth

Another western mud snake

Re: 2016 Herping Thread

Lovely photos. Not much herping to be had in England at all. Grass snakes, adders and I think one or two lizard species but not at all common as far north as I live.

Keep the pictures coming - love seeing what other people have on their doorstep.

Re: 2016 Herping Thread

Nice finds, Bandit! You've had a productive spring. I've only been out on a couple of little trips. The temps have actually been pretty cool up here in N. AL lately. I might start another herping thread this year. I don't have much to add, so far, except some garters and a northern water snake.

Re: 2016 Herping Thread

we baby our indoor snakes so much. the ones on the outside seem like their skin is much rougher and have been through a lot more to get that way.

Re: 2016 Herping Thread

Thanks yall. This month has been slower, but I will upload some more pictures from last month soon. I've been extremely busy and haven't had as much time to go out, and when I have had a chance I hadn't been seeing much out of the usual species.

And Mac, that's true. I see a lot of snakes with plenty of scars and parts of their tails missing.

Re: 2016 Herping Thread

So far the only snakes I've found in April have been overseas. A quick 24 hr Hong Kong overnight produced a White Spotted Slug Snake as well as a Bamboo Pit Viper. No pics, just this video. Used a new camcorder, Sony AX53, which I'm liking. The video is in 4K for those who have that option. I don't, so let me know how it looks in 4K if you do.

Re: 2016 Herping Thread

Very cool finds, Lou. One of these days I'm going to get to do some exotic herping.

Re: 2016 Herping Thread

Here's a video of that find, and also a Forest or Burrowing Ratsnake. Also a little up front video landing a 747 on a gusty day.
