2 possible rescues

My mom only just recently found out I had been hiding mice and extra snakes and was not very happy about it. I promised her they would be the LAST snakes until we got a house. I have been diligent in not looking at the snakes at pet stores and not looking online just to help abstaine from my addiction. I was doing so well too!

Soooo.....the lady I got my last 3 snakes from has texted me offering me her last 2 hoggies for basically free just to make sure they go to a good home.

Who could say no to this?!

Well, I didn't say yes...yet. Instead I told her I needed to talk to my mom first. And I did. I explained the woman's condition (terminal cancer) and the condition of the last snakes I got from her (poor) and that I was trying not to be sneaky sneaky.

Well, I have the best mom ever...she relented...with stipulations of course. She wants me to rehome the mice. I was kind of thinking of ot anyway since they smell, so, not a terrible trade imo. Now I just need to rehome the mice before getting the snakes.

There is still a chance this may not happen, but here's to hoping!

Re: 2 possible rescues

Good luck Mink if I did that, and didn't tell my parents, I'd be in huge trouble.

Re: 2 possible rescues

Minkness, It sounds like you went about this exactly the right way. Being open and honest with your mom will most certainly reinforce her faith that you're not hiding things from her and compromising by getting rid of the mice is a mature solution. You did a good thing for these snakes and you did it the right way. Nice job and enjoy your new Hoggies. Well Done!

Re: 2 possible rescues

That's cool! Hope everything will get good for you!
I'm still thinking about hoggies in future, as I know that i don't want anything bigger than corns/russians... but I don't know, they seem soo small and jumpy to me

Re: 2 possible rescues

Thanks everyone. And yeah, I may be almost 30, but sometimes my mom still makes me feel 15 lol

Hopefully I can find a home for the mice by friday so I can make the hour drive out there and back on friday or possibly Saturday.

I don't have them yet, and I'm trying to count my chickens (or snakes) before they hatch so to say.

According to the lady, one is an albino female and the other is a reduced pattern conda male. Not that I care either way, but having different colors/markings is always fun lol.

Re: 2 possible rescues

Wow, your mom is so cool about it! Reminds me of when I got my very first gerbil, and despite my insistence that gerbils need company my mom only permitted one gerbil in the house...she checked on him every single day because she loved watching him, and when I snuck his friend in, she didn't notice because the new friend always slept under the first gerbil. 4 days after getting a second gerbil, it was my dad who discovered the second one and asked my mom what the new one's name was! Mom was mad, but after that I eventually accumulated a breeding group and she loved them all

It'll be pretty cool if you get those two other hoggies. Any plans to breed at all? Sounds like you'd have quite a variety of genes to play with if you wanted!

Re: 2 possible rescues

Lol! Girbils!

Mom is not pleased, and she will NEVER like them, bot even a little bit. But she understands how I am with animals. I have rescued just about every animal I have ever owned minus my gecko breeders and now 3 snakes. Honesty, if money was expected, I'd have said no in a heartbeat. But I met this woman and she's very kind, just needs good homes for her snakes now that she can't properly take care of them. And when I showed mom the condition my current 3 were in, she understood how important it was to me to help. But yes, personal compromises will be made other than the mice.
As for breeding...no idea. I will have a bit of a powerhouse of genes if I end up with these other 2, I just don't see hatching more snakes as too different from 'getting' more snakes. Soooo....may be something I look into once we get that house I keep talking to lol. For now, I'm sticking to my geckos. =)

Re: 2 possible rescues

You knooooow if you have too many snakes...you could...send me one of the hoggies. Yes? Yes.

Just, you know. If you felt like you had an extra laying around.
