Just got my first snake!
Today I went to the Snake Day 2014 in Houten. After some looking around I found the little guy here. I asked if I could hold him and he immediately started to actively look around what was going on, not showing the slightest bit of stress. It was so cute!
I just put him in his terrarium and he's secretly discovering the place. I saw him looking around the water bowl earlier, but he went right back under the shavings when he saw me. He's still a bit shy
He's a Bloodred het. Stripe Corn Snake and he's hatched around August. He weighs about 7 grams right now.
This is pretty much all because of you guys. At first, I only signed in to this site to find out what kind of snake I saw when I was on vacation. But after reading that a lot of you guys had snake as pets, I searched a lot of information about snakes and well... here we are, with this little guy by my side. So, thank you for that !

Re: Just got my first snake!
Congratulations!!! He is a cutie and as BigT said, there will very probably be more to follow. Now that you've taken the plunge, don't be afraid to jump in with any questions or input. Welcome aboard.

Re: Just got my first snake!
Thanks for the congrats, guys! He is now having a great time moving up and the rocky background and he's already managed to get behind it and push it over, the little bugger! :P I still need to get a branch, that should probably prevent him from pushing it over.
(Sorry, these pictures are turning out to be bigger than I intend to.)

Make sure that the screen top is absolutely secure. These little guys are amazing escape artists and once they're out on the loose, they are VERY difficult to find. Just a thought...

I've just rechecked every tiny gap and I'm pretty sure there is no way he can get out. Thanks for the heads up,though!

Re: Just got my first snake!
So, how do you guys tell when your snake is stressed out? I've been watching him for a while and I see no signs of him being stressed out. He's leisurely checking out what's in his terrarium, he even took a short bath earlier. When I move my finger outside out the glass, he curiously watches it, without a sign of aggression. I've heard that you should leave him to get used to his new place, but since he's not eaten since tuesday, I'm wondering if I should feed him tomorrow.

Re: Just got my first snake!
Congrats on the beautiful new corn ITS. I usually feed new snakes 2-3 days after arrival but I know some people feed them the same day. Can't hurt to try. Best wishes!

Re: Just got my first snake!
Congrats on your first snake Sebbe, he looks great! Bloodreds are nice. You can try feeding him if you want. I would let him get used to his new home more before bothering him with anything else though ( like touching, or attracting his attention from the outside)

Re: Just got my first snake!
He was active and roaming around his terrarium this afternoon, so I decided to give a shot at feeding him. At first, when I tried dangling the pinky around his head, he ignored it and went back to his hide. After that I put him in a seperate box and he gladly took it within 20 seconds.
When he was done I tried to gently push him into the plastic container I got him in and put him back in his terrarium. Does anyone else have a trick to get him back in his terrarium without disturbing him too much?

Re: Just got my first snake!
Just feed him in his terrarium, there is no reason to take him out whatsoever. You can leave the pinkie in there, he will find it.
