Ball python enclosure questions

So I am looking to get a ball python for my first snake and have been doing some research but have gotten conflicting information when talking to people. Most of the research I have done says that I need a decent humidity (about 60%) for my son to be pet but when calling around trying to find a good tank I talked to a guy that said it wasn't important that all I needed was a good water bowl, also that a screen top was good but I read that I shouldn't get a screen top tank as it can't keep the humidity up very well. So I'm just wondering if the guy is right or if he was just giving me crap advice hoping for some sales.

Screen tops are rubbish for high humidity environments. You will either have to modify it, or better yet, get a front opening cage. Totes with a under tank heater or radiant heat panel set on a thermostat work great and are very cheap.

thanks guys, that's what I thought. tough trying to a proper cage, everything here is screen top.

Glass aquariums work but as mentioned it takes some doing. Uth heater, some sort of insulation helps depending on the ambient temps of the room it's kept in. And cover the top with plexiglass or at least plastic of some kind. I have a male ball python in an aquarium and everything is fine, but I already had most of what I needed to make it work. Had I been buying everything needed, I would have gone with a tub or commercial plastic enclosure of some kind.
