New salamander and newts!
I just got three eastern newts and now I am going to be the proud owner of a fire salamander.
Hard to get pictures of the three eastern newts since they are so small, but will try over the weekend. They were shipped to me and two arrived in great shape, one a bit dehydrated looking - but they are all active and eating frozen/thawed bloodworms now in their 10 gallon tank. Really nice to have. My tiger salamander keeps looking at them from the adjacent tank. I can tell he would really like to chow down on them! Anyway, I plan to tape some background scene to the tank and add some more plants so these guys will be really comfortable.
The fire salamander I am picking up Monday. At $20 there is no way I can turn down a deal like this...just have to get another aquarium and I already have a screen top for it. I am salamander crazy!!

Re: New salamander and newts!
Going to pick up a fire salamander today. I will soon post a picture!
The tiger salamander likes to burrow and holes up a lot of the time. Then he comes out and has dirt all over him.
That's a nice picture of your fire belly! They are cute and fun to watch.

Re: New salamander and newts!
Yes, they suffer in too much heat, and cannot be kept over 75 degrees F.

Re: New salamander and newts!
The little darlin has dug under the soil/coconut fibre and I haven't seen him since! Will give him a few days to get used to the surroundings and put a few crickets in there.

Re: New salamander and newts!
So happy to see my little fire salamander came out of hiding when I put a few crickets in the tank! I will check to see tomorrow if there are any crickets still alive.
I doubt there will be.
