The best key to know she's not in pain would be her eating habit hasn't changed. Snakes that eat aren't usually in pain or worse. These are tough critters and to her, it's just a slight different way of doing everything daily. In the wild she may be prey at this point but not in an enclosure. Sadly, I would keep her from any breeding programs though.
The only thing I cannot figure out is if she is in pain. She has random muscle spasms that dont look comfortable at all. She tightens up, her jaw opens up and she kinda just vibrates for a second before she goes back to "normal". I have no clue if she feels discomfort so I am just playing it by ear so to speak. And I dont plan on trying to breed her ever again. The stress would be too much I am afraid

Re: Scared for my boa

ok heres an update:

Tonight she seemed more lethargic and passed a really wattery pee that was green bean in color. It was dense and GREEN. Not neon but sickly green, that green that makes you think ICK. What is that?

Ask Korbin. He MAY know or have some sort of idea.

I've never experienced anything like that but I believe he has.

Re: Scared for my boa

Did it look anything like these?

I lost a female boa two or three months ago to what I believe was kidney failure. She passed urates like that almost daily for a couple of weeks. Never big pees just a lot of them. I asked a couple people up here and they mentioned kidney problems so I asked a three large boid breeders in the states who also mentioned her kidneys were not working properly. Now my girl was severely overweight but the last few days she just stretched out all limp and never had much muscle tone.

Re: Scared for my boa

Vet update:
Vet called and it is pyrethrin. It has caused some kidney problems and she has gotten a high uric acid build up. She will be on iv fluids once a week until we can flush it all out. She still eats but I have to manually give her water as in put some water in a straw and drip it on her mouth because having a dish is too risky when she has her seizures. Thats about the saddest thing I have ever seen :C

He is confident we can fix her. And I am willing to go as far as we can to get her back on her belly.

How did she get the pyrethrin? Just out of curiosity. I hope she can be helped.

I hope she recovers well, they're tough animals. If it hasn't killed her yet then there's a good chance she'll recover as long as she isn't exposed to any more of the stuff.

Re: Scared for my boa

Could you not inject her rat with water also?
Does the vet think this could get better?
Is the pet store owner a friend? What did they say about all this?
How was your snake exposed. Poor thing. I hope the treatment works.

I hope she makes a nice recovery.

I also hope the pet store is paying your vet bill.

Apparently the store just uses an over the shelf thing they get from home depot :/ Its a high level- its ment to kill house wasp or other large extermination projects.

I have a baster injector I fill the rat up with fluids and some vitamins he gave me. i have her on rat pups now so she can eat more often and get the vitamins. As it stands she is moving through her fluids so we are hoping she will flush it all out.

No, hell they wont even talk to me nor admit wrong. Someone who works there who also quit is the one that told me the mix they were using was highly concentrated.

I would be livid. You can always threaten them with a lawsuit.

Anyway, good luck with her recovery. I know you'll do a great job in caring for her.

Re: Scared for my boa

thanks guys. I would presue it further if i can, but i dont think I can afford a lawyer but I might take them to small claims court to pay any vet bills after all is said and done. I really dont like confrentation much less trying to fight someone even if I am in the right. Depending on how it goes in the next few weeks will determin on how I deal with it. I have already written to the local animal hospitals and the animal control place to notify them of what is going on. If the animal welfare steps in will determin how I push on with it.

Also I am using a newcomputer and browser so any misspellings please forgive I am trying to learn this thing :I
