I go today at 3. Im just a mess. I cant stop crying. I too am sick with pneumonia so every time i start to cry a coughing fit starts. I just want to fix her so she can be a happy healthy snake. Bless her heart she has tried so hard. When i put her on the floor she does her best to slither over to me and rest her head. I know she feels safe with me which pains me the most because I fear I will betray her if I have to put her down. But i feel like she is suffering. She seeks me out. Ive been sitting all morning with her in my apron like a kangaroo, just so I could hold her.

If you must put her down rest assured you are helping her not betraying her. If kharma exisits your cup is full and you gone beyond what most would have done.

The vet insisted we do another blood screen to see if we missed ANYTHING but i think her kidneys are gone. I have to give her water every day now. I have to take a straw, place it on the side of her mouth, raise her lip and drip it in there, she almost drowned in her water dish, shallow as it was. We have bonded pretty well- if snakes /can/ bond.
Her urates were half the size of a pingpong ball and hard as a rock. Really yellow as well so I dont know whats going on. She does GREAT after fluids but I am concerned that she would have to have fluids weekly to maintain health and thats a lot of stress on her and her body.
When I got her I promised her owner I would look after till she got old and died, I promised her that as well, thats why it feels like I am betraying her. Bless her heart, she just wants to be close to me and lay on me, her head sits right up but about the 6th or so neck bone down it starts going onto her side, her breathing seems hard to do, its like her muscles just arnt working. Vet wonders if there is some sort of paralysis. If so it may be degenerative and unable to fix.
If I have to euthanize her as weird as it sounds I want to either have her mounted or buy beetles to strip her down to bone so I can keep her bones. Its odd I know but We cant burry her here on base and I want to be near my pets after they die.

I really hope you're okay as this seems to be hitting you really hard.
I'd like to point out though that keeping her in your apron all morning is not helping her, if there is a chance left. She needs her proper environment if there's a chance for her survival at this point.

Its not all morning, ive been trying to change things around for her to make her stay in the warmer side, I woke up and she was laying in the cool side trying to get to the warm and couldnt. She didnt have the UNF to. I held her for about 35 or so mins. Ive been trying to massage her back and get her to get her to respond. Her muscles do seem to have just atrophied or lost tone, maybe vet is right about paralysis.

Re: Scared for my boa
If you don't put her down I would say she is going to pass in the next three days. This sounds like my girl's last days.

Im afraid she is suffering in pain, I cant let an animal do that. Hell even when I hunt I always hit the head, I dont like to watch an animal writhe around in pain, she seems to be hurting and trying to seek shelter but cant even get into her hide anymore. Cant coil. Cant do anything. Its not fair to let her linger and linger for 3 days like that.

Honestly head shots are the worst shots possible. There are a lot of places you can hit on an animals head that won't kill it. I have seen several deer with hacked up faces cause by a bad shot.

Re: Scared for my boa
Dinosaur, I'm so sorry she has taken a turn for the worse. Yes, snakes can bond with their owners, and it sounds like you have a tight one with her. I hope it turns around for both of you in the next day or two. Either way, you have done far more than most keepers would ever try, and have set an example to good owners everywhere.
How did the male's tests go?

Re: Scared for my boa
back from the vet-
we think we may have caught an infection early enough. She is very gassy and constipated, She had an intestinal blockage that was very hard and we think that caused some dehydration. She got some antibiotics, a blood test and fluids. I will know tomorrow how bad the infection is. Ugh, i want something to go right ;~;

Re: Scared for my boa
Well you guys, she passed away last night. I did all I could and it wasnt enough. She was warm when I found her but stiff, at least she died as comfortable as I could make her I guess. I freaking loved that snake. I just want things to go right for once.
