2011 the year in reptiles.
So i thought it be cool if everyone talk about how their year went. Did you breed if so how it go? Did you produce something never seen before? Did you get new snakes or lizards? Did you lose a beloved pet? Did your collection grow or did you have to down size? Did you get your first snake this year?
Let's hear what made 2011 memorable for you weather it be happy or sad.
For me one thing that stands out was i learn how to milk my Borneo Short-tail. She hadn't taking a dump in 11 months. I had to help break lose the blockage and work it out. Not fun but we do what we have to for our snakes.
Biggest highlights were getting 2 Jaguar Carpets and a Dumeril Boa. Then my wife getting me 3 Malaysian Bloods for our 10th Anniversary. Making my collection double in size. My dirty dozen.
Another low point was getting bit twice by my Yellow Anaconda and then him pissing on my hand where he bit me. Talk about insult to injury.
So let's hear your high and low points. An feel free to post pictures if you want. Weather it be of a new snake or snakes or one you lose. Here pictures of my new guy and gals.
First up is Diablo male Dumeril Boa.
Enchantress female Coastal Jaguar.
Loki male Jungle Jag.
Juggernaut male Blood.
Grim Reaper male Blood.
Bloodstorm female Blood.

Re: 2011 the year in reptiles.
My wife bought me my first boa this year for father's day. I had always wanted a boa and she made that dream come true!

Sound like you got a super cool wife like mine. It's always rocks when you get a snake you have wanted for years. My Dumeril had been on my wish list for over 15 years.

Cool thread idea. For me it's getting back into reptiles after 20 years and even more getting my wife interested.

Re: 2011 the year in reptiles.
I got my red-tailed boa, and started breeding food for my BP and rtb. I can't wait till s/he gets bigger! So far, no problems with mites or diseases and cleared up the slight stress problem, she's much more comfortable now. Silly thing bites me if I don't hang the food above her, she clipped me twice until I learned a better way to feed her. She nails that thing almost immediately.

Re: 2011 the year in reptiles.
Lets see moved into a new place, everything went well all my 10 animals were good had a great job then got demoted and probation had to reduce my collection to my four favorites, finally lost that job became c.n.a ceritfied got a good job added one to the collection and is scheduled to begin r.n courses in January. Also celebrated a wonderful two year anniversary with my one true love this year so glad I found her and she straightened me out went from homeless to almost completely on my feet in two years... think.I'm doing good. BTW while.I was in between homes my snakes stayed at.my parents house.

Same for me, but it's been closer to 30 years. (Yikes!) Although I'm very excited to get back into the hobby, sadly, both of the new snakes acquired in 2011 were the result of the passing of my son's little garter, Stripes (aptly named by my then 4 yo son). He was with us for 6 years and was a great little pet. He died of old age as far as we could tell (no signs of disease, mites, etc.). My son and I put him in a little box and buried him exactly where I had found him, about a mile from our house. RIP, Stripes.
So, after the appropriate mourning period, we went in search of a new snake for my son, and settled on an amazing little Thayeri kingsnake (Variable, Nuevo Leon). Being a Mexican complex king, the boy named him Pedro, and he's a wonderful, sweet little animal.
About a month later, the family and I were at a local reptile shop when my son noticed an adult male breeder Hog Island boa for sale. Of course I just had to hold him (silly me!), and for the first time since I had my own BCC nearly 30 years ago, I felt the amazing power of a boa constrictor wrapped around my arm. Intoxicating! Since we had done a bunch of research on Hog Islands when my son was looking for his snake, I liked everything I had seen, heard, read and experienced about the locale, and now I just had to find "the one". Two months later, I found a local breeder who had exactly what I was looking for, and Pebbles, our baby Hog Island, was the final piece added to our very small collection. Thus far, she too is awesome in every way.
And so endeth our year in reptiles, circa 2011...
Sorry for the lengthy ramble...

Re: 2011 the year in reptiles.
After 3 years of being banned from the US due to immigration BS I finally got my husband home from England :-) we got back into snakes and have had a couple of successful breeding projects and waiting for a few new ones to come together this new year.

Getting back into snakes.
I'm really happy over everyone I've gotten so far. Can't pick and chose over them. They all have their own unique personalities and traits that makes each special. Can't wait to get more. lol

omg...that made me LOL!
poor thing. that's just so not cool, snake LOL
WELL let's see... Jan 2011 brought us our first ball python...and totally started my addiction. Hubby got that snake for him, but little did he know I would go snake crazy. LOL little did i know! Up to 12 and making room for more. I don't know that I want to breed BPs...but I have dumeril's boas (to keep them in the pet trade and to help discourage imports) and hognose....(because they are sooo adorable!). There are just so many BPs out there though, that i kind of feel like breeding them would be pointless. They are still being imported, so...I don't know. I can't say that i Won't get our little female pregnant some day when she's ready, but ....we'll see!
Oh and I'm kinda into sand boas too. And if i what i've read is true, i'm probably really going to be into garter snakes lol
SO yes, long story short, 2011 has been a HUGE year for me in reptiles. I've always loved lizards, and frogs, and bugs....which I have, and have mostly attained this year also!...but wow, snakes...totally my new love forever!
