Re: Miss Piggy's updated pics
soooo, i loved the pictures you posted and decided to do some research incase I can convince my parents that a hognose would be a good investment :P
I read/heard something that said that there have been some scientific studies to support that they might have a mild venom, not enough to hurt a human but if you're bit it could get swollen and unpleasant.. just wondering if you've ever been bit and experienced this or have an opinion?

Re: Miss Piggy's updated pics
they do, they're rear fanged, their saliva is considered toxic to prey.

Re: Miss Piggy's updated pics
For a human to be envenomated the hoggy would need to have a damn good chew on you - my research shows that the reaction to the venom is minimal unless you have an allergic reaction

As Rob said it only reacts if you're allergic.

Re: Miss Piggy's updated pics
It will have some effect, whether your allergic or not i believe. It just doesnt cause anything too bad unless your allergic...

Re: Miss Piggy's updated pics
The fangs also point backwards, so you'd really have to get your finger way back there to get the venom Like it's been said before, you'd really have to get chewed on to get the venom into your skin. This is why hoggies are sold in the mainstream pet trade and can be handled with bare hands, and not alongside rattlers and cobras. They make wonderful pets and are usually not bite-y.

Re: Miss Piggy's updated pics
Unless you get allot of allergic reactions to stuff, all it would pretty much cause is selling and itching. Most hognose bite are "Dry", the only way to get envenomate is to let it chew on you. The longer you let it chew, the more venom they work into the bite and the worse the reaction. Their fangs are actually just enlarged teeth with grooves in them to channel the venom or saliva into the wound.

Re: Miss Piggy's updated pics
that's actually really neat (and i'm sorry i didn't mean to hijack this thread) I didn't realize that. they are so darn cute, a hoggie has been added to my xmas wish list (in case you guys were wondering what to get me :P )
ahah being allergic to a hognose bite really wouldn't surprise me, the past two years i've apparently become allergic to everything

Re: Miss Piggy's updated pics
Just don't let one chew on you and you should be fine.
