Re: Antivenin/Antivenom information check
Firstly I highly recommend that anyone bitten by a venomous snake seek proper medical attention as soon as possible.
Treating something this life threatening yourself is gambling with your life.....

For sure. Also, any antivenin that YOU own, is going to be ignored by the hospitals once you get there.
They simply will not trust that it is quality stuff, and that it was kept at proper temperature/conditions and is not expired.
For the most part, a tourniquet is a terrible idea, unless it is a venom powerful enough to kill you before you can seek medical assistance all you are going to do is concentrate the venom to your arm (assuming thats where you got bitten) and you will likely end up losing the arm. Staying calm, having a book in the hot room close to the exit that you can take with you, listing all your hots and their venoms and antivenoms and telling the person helping/taking you to the hospital which snake bit you will be the best thing you can do in most cases.

not true... Maybe if you brought your antivenom in from the flea market and had no clue how its dosed/administered.

Re: Antivenin/Antivenom information check
Even if you sound knowledgeable, they will disregard any antivenin that you bring, at least in Canada. I went to my local hospital and talked to them about policies and that's what I was told.

Canada may be the key word here.. The FDA offers several forms on the civilian storage and importation of antivenom. In order to completely fill out the second form you need a licensed MD that in the case of a bite will be the person to treat you to fill out and sign a few lines. There are professional ways of going about it. Like i said most MD's are not trained to know how to administer South Eastern Asian Polyvalent antivenom, or much less know the range of species this antivenom can be used for. With something as serious as your life the professional route should be the only route, anything else is down right irresponsible.

Re: Antivenin/Antivenom information check
Is the same in the UK - when you get your Venomous license you need to register with the local Emergency Dept and let them know what snakes you are keeping - they will then arrange for Antivenin to be available at short notice (tho for us most of the stock is about 4 hour from the hospital).
No UK doctor will inject you with ANYTHING that you supply yourself.

I know that, I was referring to a person who a short time ago was trying to sell antivenom on the forums from Thailand or something.

Re: Antivenin/Antivenom information check
