I respectfully disagree. I was forced out of it because it was LITERALLY as bad as a crack addiction and my mom got sick of it. Now, leveling and gearing is so easy that I can be a true casual player and still get my mileage out of the game. I went from 22 to 30 last night in the span of 2 hours thanks to a guild group xp bonus.

In terms of questing and storylines, there are so many fun, neat, goofy mechanics that they've added in that really just enrich the quality of the game beyond "Kill 10 of ________" and "Collect 20 __________".

I would agree that the expansions have made things EASIER, but that doesn't necessarily mean "worse".

I always feel left out. WoW was never my thing. I played CoH for 5 years and a bit of TR and Aion. Patiently waiting on GW2.

To the "hardcore" player, it went downhill slowly for a long time. Vanilla was AMAZING, then it went downhill, Black temple and Sunwell had a few decent fights, then it went downhill, then ulduar had a few great fights (on hardmode), the Herald of the Titans achievement was fun as hell to get, then it went downhill for a bit and picked up on fights like heroic LK and a few of the achievements required for the mount, then downhill again and didn't really stop.

All of the above stated things are referring to getting said acheivements/boss kills when it was PROGRESSION, before getting saturated in gear and making it a joke.

yes they are, they're just not MMORPGs as have been discussed and are traditionally what are though of as MMOs.
