Thought i would start a fun post of things that we have heard people say about keeping snakes that make us cringe - to start you off...

I was in the reptile shop today and a guy came in and started chatting to a staff member his words were (as close as i can remember this is exact)

"I have had a corn for 6 months and want something bigger now i know what i am doing - do you sell Green Anacondas?"

I had multiple coworkers tell me this:
" Better not let it sleep with you or it may eat you in your sleep" (which apparently refers back to a story about a pet snake measuring the owners to see if it was big enough to eat them because it slept in their bed with them)

" Does it bite you?" "No, we haven't had any bites yet" "Oh, well are you afraid it'll get out and eat you?" "No, it's 2.5 feet and his girth right now is less than a quarter and it will never be thick enough to eat a human" "Well it could constrict you and kill you and then nibble on you" "No, snakes eat their prey whole" "Are you sure? Because I'm pretty sure that snakes take bites of their prey" "Yes, I'm positive that my 2.5 ft boa will not kill me and then nibble on my dead body"

i went into a petcetera one day because i ran out of rats and i was desperate, this girl,just drop dead gorgeouse takes me over to her live rats she had, she had no frozen but i was desperate, which were to big for my snake at the time. im like ah they are to big for her to get in her mouth, with out blinking an eye ,this hotty turns to me and says, Why dont you take one and cut it down the middle ? I was thinking Wtf did she just say lol my god even i was taken back a little and she was dead serious, im like ummm its kinda messy :P shes like oh yeah i guess, well ok gl have a good day i hope you find one for your snake. i could see a hillbilly type of dude saying it but not some miss america looking girl that looked like she wouldnt hurt a fly.

the most often cringe worthy thing i witness is at my local reptile shop is.

the amount of knuckle dragging idiots who swagger in going

" heh mate, i want a big snake " holding their arms as far apart as possible indicating how big they want it to be.its hard to write the situation down and do it justice i hope you get the type of dude i'm trying to describe.

these guys want nothing more than a big burm or retic so they can get all their drunken mates home from the pub and go " heh check ma big snake out " then proceed to pass the stressed out snake around his mates.

got a rescue in our local shop where the idiot that owned it used to burn his burm with cigarretes to get it to act agressive.poor snake was terrified of humans.(cant say i blame it).

they also rescued a pair bearded dragons that had coins cigarrete butts and all sorts mixed in with what little substrate it had.the guy that rescued it forcabley made the guy pay the vets bills and took all his willpower not to slap the guy silly.

once went with a mate to buy some snakes off a guy.he had a bed room that he allowed 2 big retics to roam free in.in the corner of the room was a little chicken coup with 2 very scared chickens in it.yes this was all inside the guys house.beggars belief some of the folk you meet when you work with snakes.

just about forgot,there was a guy from my village that used to drive around in his convertable car with his 12 foot burm wrapped round his neck.one time he set about fighting with a guy outside a local shop and yes the burm was still wrapped round his neck at the time.he had the cheek to try and get his money back when the snake died after 2 to 3 months of this treatment.
