The pollen density is at it's peak, it will decline soon.

It's gotta beat being all cooped up indoors.

See what I mean, if you look at the "bright side" it's better to be outside with some allergies than locked up in the house.

My big "allergy" is that school is out for 90 days straight... Don't get me wrong, I love my kids, but when school gets let out, I can't send them away 5 days a week

Re: its that time of year, i guess

Feeling better now that the pinkillers are starting to work.

I try to keep a bright outlook as things arent gonna change in terms of my disability and once you start thinking too much about the things that you CANT do anymore it is a slippery slope; much better to focus on enjoying the things that you CAN do instead.

Its hard to believe that four years ago i was a healthy active chap waiting for his missus to give birth!! At least not being able to work i havent missed first words first steps etc and that is the biggest silver lining of any cloud!!

if i'm being honest ive often wondered myself.but if its private mate, just disregard this part of my post.

re miserable post, dont worry about it mate,we all have off days.you have a lot to contend with.i hope you dont take this the wrong way.

i was in a wheelchair for 18 months as it took me 3 years to learn to walk again after a bad car crash.i am not trying to imply i know what your going through just that i had a taste of it and i can understand some of the crap you have to go through on a daily basis.it was not until i was in this prediciment that i realised how sh**e our societys geared towards your condition.silly things like shop doors that were impossible to both hold open and get through at the same time.public transport was as bad.even when i went onto crutches for my last 18 month.it was still very hard to get around.re your pain now that i can understand more.i too have to medicate every day with pain killers that would knock the average guy out.i'm left with a metal plate that runs the length of my right femur (to hold it all together) with a big bolt driven through the ball that sits on the end of the femur.essentially my hip at the pelvis end.also 8 horizontal bolts hold the plate to the length of my femur.also 3 out of 4 of my crewsha (bad spelling, wrote it how it sounds) ligaments have been stretched and twisted beyond repair.so every day you wake up then you lye there for a bit waiting to see what like the pain threshold will be for that day.days where i have next to no pain, days where i sit alone in my bedroom as i'm a pain in the backside to be around.so as for me mate you do what you need to do.sometimes its better to get it out than bottle it all up.i really hope ive not sounded patronising or used words that have offended you in any way mate as that was never my intention.i just wanted you to know, ive been through a spell of it and can understand some of what you go through.your situation puts most folks troubles in perspective and yet you still hear them moaning about next to nothing.you have a great outlook on life mate.....!!!

all the best shaun

Re: its that time of year, i guess

Thanks shaun and sorry to hear of your situation too - i think the not knowing how each day will be is the worst as its difficult to plan ahead.

As to what happened - i was kinda a fitness freak - weight training, running, loooong walks, swimming, cycling - you name it really. I turned 30 and decided i needed to take part in some competitive sport and for years have been watching UFC (Ultimate Fighting) on tv so decided to give it a go. Within the first couple of lessons i managed to fall onto my shoulder causing a stage 3 compression of the AC joint - should have gone straigh to hospital but being a typical bloke i ignored it and carried on. In the long run ended up causing more problems and having to stop pretty much all of my exercise routine until they could operate.

To keep fit upped the cycling to where i was doing 15 odd miles per day to work and back then upto 100 miles or so each weekend. One morning on the way to work i was introduced to a Nissan Navara pick up at around 25miles per hour!! Not teh best thing but the biggest thing was that i stood up dusted myself off and thought that i was fine.

Couple of days later my back stiffened over a period of about 90minutes to the point that i needed to be lifted by my father and brother in law off the sofa i was sat on. Was diagnosed with whiplash and treated for that which got rid of a lot of the stiffness but was left in constant pain pretty much from my armpits to my knees. Some days it is just my lower back and other days its pretty much every joint that hurts. There is no cure just managing pain levels as much as possible.

I can empathise with shaun - some days just crash out, doped up, with a laptop and try not to rip anyones head off!! Some days i get out and about fairly well and enjoy what i can without overdoing things too much.

From chatting to others in chronic pain i think we all do the "wake up - lie still and try to find out what hurts before trying to move" thing!!

So thats me - sorry if i went on a bit but there we go!!

Keep smiling
