My Blood Pythons
Ok here is my male Blood python "Sunday" He was very angry all the time at first, not striking but really letting me know he didn`t want me near him, every time I had to do something in his enclosure. I haven`t pushed the issue at all, I thought I`d just do everything I have to do to ensure his wellbeing and he`ll just have to get used to me. It`s worked a treat I`m glad to say. It`s getting to the point where I can actually hold him for short periods of time without too much fuss, although he`s a bit squirmy, hard to hang onto if he does decide to make a fuss lol He`s never bitten or tried to bite me, yet. He`s grown loads since I got him, he was a bit underweight at first I think, but that`s easy to fix with an appetite like his ! He`s on large rats now, coming straight out to attack it the second he smells it. When I first had him it took ages to get him to eat never mind strike, I just think he wasn`t comfortable on display in a shop. He gets a lot more peace and quiet in my snake room. Anyway, here he is, this is about the best picture I have of him.....
I`m growing a baby female on aswell at the moment. She`s totally tame compared to him ! She`s a real looker to....

Sharp looking snakes. How big are they? Your female is sweet. She looks like she'll have some really nice red to as she gets bigger.

I have a marble borneo. I an can't wait to get another. Bloods and borneo are just some of the coolest snakes ever.

Re: My Blood Pythons
Yeeeah.... I like the way they can`t just be handled just like that aswell, and the way I have to be so careful around the bigger one, he`ll be hiding and watching what I`m doing in his tank and he`s often quite hard to spot ! The strike on these guys is phenominal too !!

Re: My Blood Pythons
I must be lucky. Every blood or borneo i handle have been real angels. But i know what your talking about. I use to own a crazy retic that had it out for me an no one else. I have a thread on here call snake with a chip on it's shoulder. Check it out. http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/gener...-shoulder.html

Re: My Blood Pythons
Will do ! lol I think as angry snakes go, my biggest Blood really isn`t bad at all, he`s never actually tried to bite, he`s just a bit arsey, he doesn`t want to be bothered. He`s quite hard to hang on to when I do get him out, Bloods are all soft aren`t they?! lol They feel like a beer belly or something lol He`s improved loads since I got him so maybe he`ll get better still as he gets older. I`d like to be able to handle him for longer than thirty seconds really lol Blimey I can`t imagine being able to do a course of injections on him !! I bet that`s going to be fun if I ever have to inject that guy ! lol

Re: My Blood Pythons
Had them out today for tank inspection so I did a couple of pictures. You can see the bigger male a bit better here, the light bit on the nose is just what the flash did but this shot was still the best of the bunch...
I really had to tangle with the big male to get him back in the viv, he doesn`t like being handled at all ! He hasn`t tried to bite yet though, he just uses a whole lot of strength to try and wriggle free.....

Re: My Blood Pythons
Lucky that you haven't been bitten yet; bloods are very strong. My female (3-footer) tagged me good a few times, and hers are probably the worst snake bites I've ever had. They bruise like heck and she strikes HARD and really clamps down.

Re: My Blood Pythons
Getting bit by a three foot blood about the same as getting bit by a 6 to 8 foot burm or retic. I read where they say blood are as strong as a retic or burm twice their size. For being short an fat their pure power.

Re: My Blood Pythons
The thing is, there`s no time to stay away from the sharp end ! He wriggles for all he`s worth and really tries to get away from me sometimes! lol I`ve given up on the gloves I used to use, bare hands have more control. He hisses at the first touch or even when he knows you`re going to touch him, then just explodes when picked up. Not all the time though, I picked him up and was able show him to my wife the other week, he just nuzzled into my arms and was really calm. When he`s like that I think ooooh there we go look, he`s calming down. But I think he`ll always go mental now and then, it`s just his nature. I can imagine his bite isn`t fun, when he hits his food it`s easily the fastest strike out of all my snakes and he does hit like a train ! Loads of power behind it. I suppose he`ll get me sooner or later, I can see that being a real pant filler lol

Re: My Blood Pythons
Aaaaaand here`s why we check to see EXACTLY where the grumpy Blood python is before we put our hands in the tank.....
You can see him quite easily here actually but I had my wife look for him and she just didn`t spot him at all. Then saw a little of him, I had to point him out in the end, he had a good foot and a bit of body hidden and ready to strike. These guys must be devastating ambush hunters......
