OH S*%T She's loose!

I have no idea how, but Rosy escaped her locked enclosure! Any sugestions? We have torn the house apart, look everywhere including all the warm placed like the refrigerator motor, dishwasher ect. I put a heating blanket near her enclosure with her hiding place on floor, and am hoping that she will go there looking for a warm place.

Rosy is a young redtail about 2 foot in length.

I feel like such an idiot!

My Texas ratsnake got out of his cage on the 10th of February, he was hiding in the cold room/pantry when my brother saw him crawling up the stairs on the 15th of April. They can go a long time without food, but check the cool dark places if you didn't brumate her, and check any nooks and crannies where they might squeeze into. I put 10 f/t mice around the downstairs where he was and that didn't help at all, put some dishes of water in various places though.

In my experience, boas really don't travel far like colubrids, they usually head for the closest warm hiding spot and stay put... Good luck finding her!

omigod, i would be in SOOO much trouble if that happened to me. Makes me glad the gf doesn't visit the site.

I have no experience with escaped boas, so i can't offer any advice. But let me know how you do find her! (just in case)

It happens to us all eventually..and some just dont ever turn up, some come back in rough shape. JonD has a good suggestion as I totally agree. Any boas or pythons that have escaped from me all stayed rather close to the enclosure..and stayed on the same floor level..went into dark, cool tightest spots..

My best advice is ....stop looking...because they always turn up when your not looking, or have given up hopes.. :-)

I had a boa escape once. She got out in the middle of the night when i was in bed. I woke up and was like ahhhhh F!@#. So the searching commenced. I tore my whole house apart looking for her, i even tore the oven and dishwasher apart so bad that they were in pieces. I figured that she shouldnt be too hard to find, she was about 5 feet at the time. But it took me probably a good 10 hours to find her, and guess where she was. In one of my dresser drawers, all coiled up.

So don't always be looking somewhere where it would be warm, where i found her it was in my room where it stays really cool. Also try checking places that are always really dark.

Thats about all i can offer you as it only took me about a half a day to find her.

Maybe you could try spreading some flour or something safe and powdery on the floor. Hopefully spot a trail in the morning.

I had a milksnake escape once, and I literally tore the whole basement apart without any luck..week later gf went to dump the vacume bag so she could vacume that day...sure enough..there he was....and boy did she scream! (Was alive and well by the way).

Rich - I sure hope you're wrong when you said "it happens to us all eventually" - because if it eve hapens to me....thats the end of my snake hobby. The wife would definitel put an end to it right then and there. So hopefully you're wrong...lol

Mine hid in the highest spot it could find. So they aren't always low. It climbed up some shelving into a box near the ceiling!

lol ya ive had my snake run off on me b4.. it was on my lap one second and i got caught up in a game i was playin and the next thin i no it.. i was searchin my entire room for him... flippin my couch and lookin EVERYWHERE.. i had work the next day so i gave up about 45 mins into the search.. he was lost in ym room for a good 24 hrs b4 i came home after a party and saw him on one of my chairs lol.. hes also escaped once ( no idea how ) but was hangin around his feedin "bucket" prob juss hungry lol.. but ya.. he always get loose in my room.. the best bets r the corners of ur room... where its dark and no much movement around.. i usually find him against my walls.. either in between my bed and wall or my table and wall.. that and he lieks goin into the corner of my closet.. hope those spots help but i make sure my boa doenst get outta my room.. my mom would FLIP.. shes really scared of snakes :P well hope those spots help.. update us wit ur search and dun stress out lol.. gl

We had a corn snake escape last fall, we looked all around the room and figured that she had gone down the vent. Sure enough, 6 months later, she appeared out of a vent in another room.

Good luck finding the little one. I definitely agree with placing a rodent out... Boas are pigs and can be successfully attracted by the scent of a rat. Hopefully she didn't find her way in to any vents, drains, or furniture. Like everyone said, check both warm and cool places, as well as checkin places like curtains, bedding, etc. If she doesn't turn up in search, she should hopefully turn up on her own soon enough. Do you have any dogs or cats?

On a sidenote, tropical snakes such as Boas cannot be brumated like North American species can
