Angry Where are all the "bunny huggers"???

I am sure you are all aware of the rattlesnake roundup in New Mexico. Well, here is an article by CNN and there is also an opportunity to vote. I was appaulled when I read the poll results! 47% voted "yes, snake round-ups constitute cruelty to animals" and 53% voted NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can taking 1,200 snakes out of their habitat and poking fun at them, killing them, and turning them into chili NOT BE CRUELTY! Come on, where are all the "bunny huggers"???

Maybe I'm mistaken, but aren't diamondback rattlers endangered? Hmm, maybe not, I don't think there would be any "roundups" if they were...maybe I'm thinking of timber rattlers...in any case, it's really ridiculous, not only because the snakes suffer, but because it must encourage amateurs to go out and collect dangerous venomous snakes, I wonder if anyone has died during one of these things...

Hmm

OMG... you mean you guys aren't raising your snakes as food?

That's it then..I'm not sharing my corn snake fritters recipe..

Even though they are American/Mexican they do have a cultural history of eating snakes as do a lot of other countries in the world.. if they arent a protected species (and in some cases that makes them more valuable) there is not going to be a way to stop it ....much like those people that yell at us for feeding those cute furry little critters to our slimey, nasty reptilian creatures...

North, that's totally different....

we breed those "cute furry little critters" to feed to our "slimey, nasty reptilian creatures". They aren't breeding the rattlers to make up for the monstrous hole they're putting in their own ecosystem. Oh, well, hopefully the hanta virus kills them all off, stupid red-necks
Wishfull thinking!

If they had rattlesnake breeding farms, like a chicken or a cow farm, in all honesty I'd have no problem with them eating rattlesnakes provided they weren't ripping them out of the wild. To me it's not a culture issue at all, it's a moral issue.

P.S. we're averageing about 2000 votes behind the killers on CNN's poll.

The guy in charge of the roundup is Ralph Coleman, the jerk that called animal lovers "bunny huggers". His personal phone number is (505) 437-7116. Yes this is his phone number, it's not a joke. Damn i'm good.

Hmm

Well for the most part I agree with you.. we all have our moral issues to deal with, I myself haven't been able to eat veal since I saw how they hung the poor critters from a sling so their feet wont touch the ground and toughen them up..Free range chickens? what's with that they keep them on a box and feed them and get them to lay eggs... Hmmm sounds familiar..I'm as guitly as they are because I have a livingroom full of wild animals (CB) that I keep in boxes for my own enjoyment..all of us would like to see the wild caught trade come to an end.. but would you turn down a cheap albino Ball Python because it was wild caught..I think not.. I may not agree with what they are doing with the rattle snake round-up but I understand it..and yes it is a moral issue..and very sad to see...I'm more saddened by how many snakes are killed each year in shipping from some third world nation just to appease us the general hobbyist.... I'm just a bit confused as to how many bandwagons I can stand on, the trade in fish is killing a lot of reefs, wild caught snakes, monkeys, parrots, frogs, lizards.... you name it..no matter what it is someone somewhere wants to eat it, tame it, breed it or hang it on their wall....and try to feel guilt free but we are all contributing to that in some way just by making it a popular hobby..... Have I rambled and gone in circles enough yet......

North - you make one heck of a good point ...

As for the food industry .. I've read tons of books on what they do the animals and as a result I have been a vegetarian for over 4 years now .. I may of saved a few cows and chickens although I doubt it actually made a difference ..

I am completly against owning WC animals .. and that falls right into what your were talking about but .. as for CB .. we are not depleting anything .. as a matter of fact .. we are actually making populations larger in some sense - I am shure we have discust this several times before .. but there are many many advantages to breeding in captivity ...

All my animals are CB but your right .. If i could get a WC albino ball for dirt cheap I would probably take it .. So to some extend I guess I am as bad as them.

Unfortunate to say, I think everyones moral beliefs can forgotten with the right price / offer ..

We're up to 49% now!!!!

I was actually kind of thinking the no votes were gonna really start hammering us. Even a 1% vote of no still means we've got lots of educating to do though after all they are without a doubt cruel and inhumane. We're less than 1000 votes behind.

if they want to eat them they should do as they do with gator farms farm them for food and a % of the offspring is released back to the wild population this way they have ther little rattler burgers and the wild population does not suffer but gains.
