Uros prices??

How much do uros cost?? I saw one in the petstore and it was 149.99 it looked healthy and everything. I'm just wondering if it's a really high price for one.

mali uros are much cheaper than other species, due to the high rate of importation.

Also, if you use sand make sure your lizard can't burrow underneath the rocks so they don't get squished.

I was kinda hoping to get one, by the end of this month early or next month maybe. I'm just not too sure yet. I have some more reasearch to do before I decide. I've been looking into them for a while now, but just as kinda a side thought. If I use do use sand I would kinda bury the rocks in the sand. How deep would the sand have to be?? I know they like to burrow and that but couldn't I kinda have a half burried hide type thing for them, and then the sand wouldn't have to be so deep??

Hi Rebecca,
$149 doesn't sound bad, it depends on factors such as age, wild caught vs captive bred, etc. It's always better to go with captive bred, to avoid the decline of the wild species.

Also, if you wish to use sand, buy washed playsand from the hardware store. Anything from 4-6 inches should be ok. Manville is right, though, make sure the rocks and other heavy furniture are placed directly on the bottom of your enclosure, or the uros can dig under and die when the rock falls.

Make sure you have space enough. One mali will need floorspace of about 4' by 2' or more. 4' by 3' would be better. Be sure that you can provide UVB light all day, as well as HOT basking lights all day. Also, these are primarily vegetarians, so you'll need to provide a variety of healthy greens for them, including endive, escarole, mustard and turnip greens, etc. with some other vegetables mixed in.

Hope this helps you make your decision. These are really neat lizards, and if you can care properly for them, they are very rewarding!

Good luck!
Nicki

I have a home made enclosure that it I believe 4' L by 2' W. I have all the other lighting stuff because it's left over from when I had a bearded dragon, I need to buy a new UVB light though. The only problem I have is with buying the greens I only have like 3 stores that carry green stuff and most don't have stuff like the endive (not even sure what that is) also what is collard greens?? I never could figure that out.
