A question
If I bred a 50% het albino male ball, to a normal female, what will they produce?
Thanks everyone.

Normals. You won't know if your 50% het is actually a het unless you breed him with a normal, then breed back his daughter and so on and so on.
With 100% het males so affordable, its kinda a waste to be messing around with 50% possible hets that could turn out to be normals. But hey, the long road is fun too.

Even if the male was 100% het, breeding it with a normal female will only produce more 50% hets.

In order to get albinos from a 100% het male breeding a normal female, you would have to breed all his female offspring back to him (which are all 50% possible het). The females that are in fact 100% het, will produce albinos (25% of one clutch will be albino).
I'm with Marisa, I would just buy a 100% het male instead of a 50% het male, since there isn't much difference on price (maybe $100..) But of course, whatever floats your boat!

Yes but breeding a 100% het to a normal will give you 50% hets which you can then use with your 100% het.
Breeding a POSSIBLE het sets you back possibly ANOTHER year as you cannot say if your het is a het or not...its only 50% possible. If its not, then you are really set back. Not only that but then not only are you guessing if you 50% het male is a het, but you are waiting a few years then guessing if his daughters are hets and in the end no one could be hets. LOL. With a 100% you are sure to get hets.

If you breed them back wouldnt that be inbreeding which is bad? Well i dont want to start a giant argument about inbreeding and whether its bad or not, but shouldnt you try and stay away from that?

Well the only reason morphs even exsist is because inbreeding...thats the short version anyway. It's up to you personally really...to do research and what not and decide whats right for your own beliefs

Just buy a 100% het, as others have already said. Breed him to a few normal females and you will get a whole clutch of 50% possible hets. Breed all or some of them back to the 100% dad and you should get a few Albinos in just a few years. 100%'s are insanely cheap. I've seen them as low as $200 but I am sure you can find them even cheaper.

In my opinion, sell them, save and buy a pair of 100% hets. The odds are against you having two 100% hets in that pair, or really, even of having one. Either way, it would take a long time to prove it out, unless the het gods are looking down on you and you lucked in to a pair of 100%ers.

You have just that: a 50% chance of them being 100% het albino. More than likely, one of them is not a het, if not both. When dealing with 50% possible hets, I would get a bunch of each sex that is 50% possible het, that way you can have a higher chance of one being an actual het. Because, 50% hets do NOT mean they have 50% of an albino gene. It means they have a 50% CHANCE of being an actual heterzygous animal.
But then again, the easiest way to get an albino is to have a pair of 100% definate hets bought from a REPUTABLE breeder.

With a pair of 50% chance hets your odds are only 25% that both are hets (also only a 25% chance that neither is a het).
I'd hang on to the 50% chance het female and if you can afford it buy an unrelated 100% chance het male and double your odds of having a het pair to 50%. Maybe keep the original 50% chance het male for a backup (but more than likely you could find a better breeding loan for an adult het albino female if the new 100% het male doesn't work out). If your possible het pair are babies you might even wait and buy a 100% het male that is a year younger (and hence cheaper) since males generally don’t take as long to get to breeding size.
I purchased a 100% het albino male and produced four 50% chance het daughters with him. Only two of the daughters have produced yet but one proved to be a het (the other only produced two normals so could still well be a het).
Just to make things interesting I sold my original 100% het albino male (the dad) to finance a 66% chance het albino male (because he is also 50% chance het Jolliff axanthic and presumably not closely related). He was the breeder male that proved himself het albino with the 50% chance het daughter so it is possible to hit it lucky and prove with a possible het pair (66% X 50% in my case).
Unfortunately, I must have used up all my luck proving those two as the two albino hatchlings where horribly kinked and didn't make it out of the egg. Incubation problem I’m thinking, perhaps even before being laid. Still exciting to see the odds work out on the genes.

It's true that their exsistance wasn't from inbreeding but its most certaintly true that most of the specific morph animals in *most* collections got that way by breeding daughters to fathers. I am not saying its wrong or right...but for an example the only reason their are as many albino boas as there are out there is because of inbreeding. Same holds true for many many morphs of all species.

Sell the male as a normal for $100 and keep the female. Buy a male 100% het for like $300 and try to prove out the 50%-er, while producing more 50%-ers in the process.
Having TWO 50%-ers is like having TWO UNKNOWNS. If you get no albinos in the clutch, how the he!! do you know if its the male that's just a normal, the female that's just a normal, or if both are normals, or if both are 100% hets and you just got unlucky? 50% male anythings suck.
