Well the down side is that retic was not mine and it is now dead.

My Jamps look 8 feet so they are probebly around the 6 foot mark.
I havent realy taken out the tape to them some time when I have nothing to do I will mesure my hole collection. The last time I mesured my suluwasie he was 6 feet but he has grown alot since so I will take a guess on 8.5 feet but I will be mesuring soon.
The rest of my animals are under the 5 foot marker. in a few weeks I will be taking every animal and snapping new pic's and recording the length then there will be a realy long thread about my collection.

Let’s see where should I begin. first off I am still very new to retics, second off the retics I do own are not at all your normal big retic I just own 1.1 super dwarf jampea retics but in the short time I can pretty much agree with what your saying, in the short time I have owned retics I have noticed such a difference in them than my burm. You can clearly see the difference in attitude and such. but I am going to have to agree with Jim on "the burms are a shadow of a snake" I will say that generally speaking yes, burms are much more lethargic and layed back than retics and I have seen very few breeding facilities outside jims place, but when I’m at jims house I can almost look around in one of his rooms and see a snake and almost see the personality of each snake just by the reaction of the snake when you poke it or just look at it threw the glass. I know one of jims normal burms has got some major balls, I was on my knees looking at a snake and my a*s bumped up agast a snakes cage behind me and BLAM before I knew it there was a burm right behind my ready to kick my as* with nothing but a sheet of plexy glass in its way. But back on topic I can pretty much agree with most of the things you say. I think retics are butiful creaters and I would love to have a full sized one but I have no place to put something of that size. Now here is my opinion on “that retics are just display animals” Yes, handling retics or any snake for that matter is initially stressful but I try to put myself in the situation of the snake. As soon as the snake realizes you are not a threat to it they will (in most cases) calm down quite nicely in captivity but when you allow a snake to think of you as a predator every time you walk by would be stressful for the snake. Also (not that I am saying this applies to you in anyway shape form or fashion) but I think if someone goes out in search of a large snake solely based on its mean temperament they are probly over compensating for something else. I love snakes, mean snakes, nice snakes, killer snakes, and harmless snakes. And I think out of all the large pythons the retics ranks #1 in my book (although I love burms, so it’s kind of a tie)

If this is your opinion of Burms, then don't you think retics will go down the same path because of their captivation?

The day you buy a W/C Suluwasie Retic and break him into a Burm. Will be the day I win the 6/49 jack pot.

Yes in time, years of captive breading some retic's will mellow out a bit but nothing like the burms have. And to start that kind of project you need to find some one that respects them and does not fear them. and thows ppl are far and few.

To be honest, I never really paid attention to retics until one day when I was in the pet store and one of the retics had managed to get loose. I was captivated by his energy and the sheer power he was displaying... when I looked them up, I found out that that was only a baby!!! It's the only one I've ever seen, and he's still a handful. I hear he's bitten others before but I've had more luck than them so far LOL. He only comes out for maintenance and feeding... I'd like to get him out more often than that.

While I'll probably never be able to have one of my own, I'm always going to respect and admire them.

They are a species to admire and I am sure that in like 5 years you will find your self with a retic of your own almost every one that get's captivated buy them end having one. they are a verry interesting species to watch and learn from. wether it be watching them swim or watching them eat it is all asome.
