Well i no it sound's crule but if he is a puppy you shoud take him out every 30 minutes and at night put him into the crate to get him to not go nut's in the crate put a alarm clock the type you wind up so he can hear the ticking and a old sweater of your's in the crate that will make him think that there is some one there with him as for letting you no when he has to go out by taken him out every 30 minutes he will get use to you taken him out and will let you no when it is time to go out

hope this helps
good luck and i look foward to seeing some pic's i also have a Huskey

Start by teaching your puppy to go outside right away. If you get him used to going on newspaper, you'll have to get him to switch later on and husky pees and poops get big fast!!!

The trick to house training is like Brandon says, you have to bring your puppy outside VERY often! Especially at certain "key" times: when you get up, after eating, anytime it's been 1 to 2 hours. Bring some treats with you so when he goes outside you can give him one. Also and most importantly, you praise your puppy lots when he goes in the right place.

Only "scold" your puppy if you catch him doing his business inside, if you find it later then don't bother as the dog will have no clue why you're upset.

Proper training when young is very important, especially with a larger breed like a husky. I strongly suggest you look up some puppy training internet sites or get a good book or two.

If you want to train him using the crate method, your "crate" has to be just slightly larger than the dog. Too much space and the training is completely moot, ESPECIALLY in house training! A dog will usually not pee or poo when in a small area, they don't want to be stuck too close to it so that's what helps them teach them to hold it.

As for bringing him outside to pee and poo, it will be frustrating as you've already noticed!!! Understand one thing, do not go back inside with your puppy until he does something outside at key times (after meals, waking up, bedtime). If you give up too quick, he'll wait and do it inside!!! The first few days are the hardest cause your puppy hasn't got a clue of what you expect from him. Once he starts catching on it'll be easier until he reaches his "teen" period

Invest a few dollars in dog training books. Dogs for dummies is actually very good!

Fan, every single time your puppy naps (you'l find them doing it often) take them out immediatly when it wakes up. After doing it's "business" outside, be sure to praise him emmencly for what he did. even offer a treat. This way you reward him for doing something good. When you catch him pooping in the house be sure to scold him. Do not hit the animal!!! (not that you would, but some people do..) Give a firm NO! and take him outside to resume his business.

Huskys have incredibly weak digestive tracts so make sure you feed it a less harsh meal.. Lamb and Rice is usually used for huskys as it is far easier on their digestive tracts. it's possible he just can't hold it. You'l probably notice his poop is runny for awhile...... that is if you have him on other foods. Good luck, keep us updated!

hes a pup right now, so theres no better time TO switch his foods.! get him on something less harsh, like Iams Lamb and rice, or eukanuba lamb and rice. (eukanuba is actually better)

Keep the puppy on GOOD large breed puppy food till he's 3-6 months then switch him to something like Wellness, Solid Gold, or Nature's Recipe. Join a Canine forum. Talk to your vet. Read.

Congrats on the new puppy! He sounds beautiful!

All of the above mentioned advice is great. Crate training them is very important, and can be both stressful on both parties but is necessary in the long run and ocne they are used to it its no sweat. You never know when dogs may need to be crated, such as vetrinary situations, or even when you go out you don't want to have a loose puppy in your hous, you may come home to not much left! To touch on all of the above mentioned for toilet training, when you are taking your puppy to do his business, use the terms you would if he was trained. Just before you take him you can say something like "Do you have to go outside?" then take him and if there is a designated area (we have a boxed off area) say something like "Go to your box! Go to your box!..." and then as V.hb mentioned, when he does his deed praise him and give him a treat even.

It's great that he's starting to go outside Keep at it and don't get discouraged (trust me there will be plenty of times! lol), your new puppy will be housetrained well in just a few weeks and you won't have to worry about that anymore.

Linds brought up a very good point to housetraining (and any training for that matter) is to attach a "command" word or phrase. Everytime you go out with your pooch and expect him to do his business, say the command a few times and very happily and enthusiasticly when he does it outside, kinda like goofy baby talk. Dogs love to please and he will associate the proper behavior with the command soon too. When all is done, all you'll have to do is tell him his command and he'll go! Both my dogs are trained this way and it works on every dog, even the difficult ones.

What's really important in house training ESPECIALLY with a very young puppy is that they have very small bladders and very little control over their bodies. They are learning their bodies and it's functions just like a human baby so they NEED your tolerance and patience during this training period. You cannot expect a puppy under 6 months of age to be 100% housetrained. It can happen and it's great when it does but you have to think for your dog's potty needs for the next 3-4 months, get used to it!

I cannot stress enough that taking a puppy outside in the proper area for him to go is very very important. As you've already noticed, they can be ready to go again in just minutes!!! Those are especially at the key times mentioned earlier: morning/long time before he went, and usually has a drink when they get up, after meals/full stomach pushing on bladder and digestive tract making stuff wanna come out!!! Go at least twice in those times!!! Do come back in between for a few minutes so he starts making the correlation of being outside.

Crate training is usually quite simple. The time you use it most is at night, other wise it's for corrections. When he's gone potty for the last time and you're going to bed, put him in the crate. Have a blanket and toy in there so he's comfy. If he cries you have to tough it out and let him until he stops. If it's really driving you nuts, after 1-2 hours take him out, go outside for a few minutes and put him back. Do not give him any attention other than to bring him out, talk to him gently and praise heavily if he goes potty. Then it's time to go back to bed and that's it.

In the morning, get ready to take him out before you take him out of the crate. It should be the first thing after you're up and you've gone. Take him directly outside and wait till he goes, praise praise praise when he does. Go back in, do your stuff whatever and take him out again in 20-30 min. Wait till he goes. After that he should be good for an hour or two!!!

If he messes up, that's when the crate is really nice. That is his punishment. Scold him for his booboo and put him in the cage tying another command to it like "go to your cage". Leave him in there 20 min and completely ignore him.

In time accidents will be less and less frequent and you will have a dog that pisses and shits on command and goes to his cage when naughty on command!
