Where can I buy garter snakes?

Hey all, I'm looking into possibly getting a garter snake, but I can't really find a lot of breeders. I won't be getting one for a while. I would like an almost pure white snake, or a pure black snake. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter what they look like but it would be nice.

Welcome to the community. Snakes that are white are generally called leucistic whereas all black snakes are sometimes referred to as melanistic.

I'm not 100% garters come in these varieties but gartere themselves are super pretty. Good luck!

You can find them on the fauna classifieds website or the Thamnophis Classifieds, Inquries, (Something Else) Facebook page.

Albinos (mostly checkered or plains garters) are readily available but they are not all white. You don’t see many, if any, all white garters. Melanistic (black) easterns are occasionally available but are super expensive. While garters are very common in the wild, not many people breed them, so they can be relatively expensive, especially the morphs. And if you can’t find them locally you’ll have to order online, and shipping can be a decent chunk of change. But they’re great. I have two.

Good luck.
