Question Rescued 27 yoa ball python

Hello all! We just rescued a 27 year old ball python. He’s about 5 ft long and 6 lbs. We also have a 2 year old ball python but that’s all for now. My big super sweet boy is doing something strange to me. He will open his mouth and I can hear him exhale really hard. At least I think that’s what he’s doing. It’s not with his tongue out and he doesn’t do it when his mouth is closed. I’m not sure if I’m just a paranoid new mom of my old guy, if I just don’t notice it with my baby ball or if something really is wrong and he needs help. I will say that his lower jaw doesn’t seem to sit exactly right and he has what appears to be scarring on his nose and face. We got him yesterday and he seems to be doing well though we haven’t fed him. He is active when held, not jumpy at all, and has explored his cage and seems to have settled in. The rescue group said they had him quarantined and he was healthy and eating etc. Please help, even if it’s just to calm my nerves! Lol. Thanks

It could be just loud exhaling. Got pics of his face?
